Job Description
Restaurant Depot is a premier wholesale cash-and-carry foodservice distributor that prides itself on delivering savings, selection, and service to independent restaurants, caterers, and not-for-profit organizations every day of the week. As a privately-owned, multi-billion-dollar enterprise, Restaurant Depot operates over 150 warehouses and distribution centers across 37 states in the U.S. This extensive network allows us to provide our customers with the right products at competitive prices and in the quantities they require, ensuring that their businesses can thrive without interruption. Our commitment to exceptional customer service and operational excellence makes us a trusted partner in the foodservice industry. Employees at Restaurant Depot find themselves working in a dynamic and supportive environment that values teamwork and dedication, offering great opportunities for growth and development within the company.
The Stocker - Perishables position is an integral role within the Deli Department, reporting directly to the Deli Manager. This is a full/part-time, hourly position featuring 8- to 10-hour shifts under a union work agreement, providing a structured and fair work environment. The core responsibility of the Stocker revolves around ensuring that perishables and deli products are properly stocked, organized, and readily available to customers throughout the warehouse. On any given day, this role demands a keen attention to detail and the physical capability to handle products safely and efficiently. The Stocker acts as a frontline associate who delivers prompt and courteous customer service while maintaining cleanliness and safety standards in their designated areas.
The core of this role involves removing boxes from pallets and strategically placing items on shelves, unpacking cases to re-stock individual products as needed, and organizing shelves by front-facing items to maintain an appealing and orderly presentation. Attention to regulatory compliance is crucial; hence this position requires performing inspections in accordance with Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) standards to ensure perishables meet food safety requirements. Stewardship of inventory is another vital component, involving frequent checks to rotate stock and minimize shrinkage or product damage. Accurate pricing on shelves is maintained to reflect current pricing strategies, supporting both customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.
The Stocker also actively contributes to warehouse sanitation by following rigorous cleaning schedules that include scrubbing floors and moving pallets to clean underneath them. Maintaining a safe working environment is paramount; this means promptly addressing spills, eliminating debris like plastic wrap and wooden scraps from the work floor, and collaborating with forklift operators to keep the selling floor stocked and hazard-free. Open communication with supervisors is encouraged, especially when low or out-of-stock items are identified, ensuring seamless replenishment and inventory management.
Physically, this role demands stamina and strength, as candidates must be prepared to stand or walk on concrete for up to 10 hours per day, perform frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and pushing or pulling of heavy objects weighing between 500 to 1,500 pounds. Lifting items exceeding 60 pounds is also common, underscoring the need for physical fitness and adherence to safety protocols. The work environment exposes employees to cold or freezing temperatures, given the nature of perishables, and requires vigilance around operational equipment like forklifts and electric pallet jacks to prevent accidents.
Employees in this role may be tasked with additional duties or assigned to support various departments as operational needs arise, offering a varied workday and opportunities to develop a broader skill set. To support its employees, Restaurant Depot offers a comprehensive benefits package including company-paid medical, vision, and dental insurance, paid vacation, sick leave, personal paid time off, and other union benefits such as an annuity plan. This holistic approach to employee wellbeing ensures that staff members feel valued and supported in their roles, fostering a motivated and dedicated workforce committed to delivering excellence every day.
