Job Description

The Lakefront Anchorage Hotel, formerly known as the Millennium Hotel, is a distinguished full-service hotel located on the shores of the picturesque Lake Spenard, just one mile from Anchorage International Airport and four miles from the bustling downtown Anchorage area. Known for its outstanding hospitality and commitment to delivering memorable guest experiences, the Lakefront Anchorage Hotel features 248 guest rooms and three exceptional food and beverage outlets that cater to a variety of tastes. We are currently recruiting for a full-time Steward to join our dedicated team. This crucial role involves maintaining cleanliness and order in our kitchen and dishwashing areas to ensure a smooth and efficient operation for our culinary teams. The Steward is responsible for promptly and carefully sorting soiled ware so that it can be properly processed through the dish or pot machine, washing and polishing all ware, and ensuring items are returned to their designated storage areas. The position demands physical strength and stamina due to the high level of activity and the need to handle heavy items safely. This role is vital in supporting our kitchen staff by maintaining a clean, organized, and hygienic environment that adheres to hotel standards and health regulations.

In this fast-paced kitchen setting, the Steward will keep dish machines properly cleaned and filled with water, polish silverware to maintain its appearance, and check their station before, during, and after shifts to uphold cleanliness and orderliness. Additional duties include cleaning kettles, tilt skillets, pots, and pans promptly and thoroughly, emptying trash in service areas at designated times, and performing general cleaning tasks to prevent slip and fall accidents. This position also requires separation of linen from other debris and occasional assistance with moving supplies and equipment. The successful applicant must demonstrate the ability to work efficiently in a humid and noisy environment while managing frequent task interruptions with patience, tact, and diplomacy. Holding a valid food handlers' card is essential for compliance with food safety standards.

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to push pull service carts fully loaded with soiled ware

  • Valid food handlers card
  • Previous stewarding or kitchen cleaning experience preferred but not necessary
  • Prior hospitality experience preferred

Job Duties

  • Keep dish machine properly cleaned and filled with water per hotel standards
  • Polish silver for proper appearance after cleaning
  • Check station before, during and after shift for proper set-up and cleanliness
  • Clean kettles, tilt skillets, pots and pans promptly and completely so cooks can carry out their work
  • Empty all trash in service areas at predetermined times and upon request from the manager
  • Perform general routine cleaning tasks using standard hotel cleaning products as assigned by supervisor to adhere to health standards
  • Clean and dry floors to avoid slip fall accidents
