Job Description

This job opportunity is with a reputable Food and Beverage Operations department, widely recognized for its commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and sanitation across all culinary environments. The organization operates within the hospitality sector, focusing on delivering exceptional dining experiences through meticulous attention to cleanliness, customer service, and operational efficiency. The establishment takes great pride in its inclusive and professional atmosphere where teamwork is not only encouraged but essential to the success of their operations. The Food and Beverage department has a broad scope that encompasses all aspects of kitchen sanitation and dishware maintenance, supporting the culinary team to maintain optimal service levels in a clean and safe environment.

The role in question is that of a Steward, a position primarily responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and sanitation of all food and beverage areas within the establishment. Under the general supervision of the Steward Supervisor, this role emphasizes rigorous maintenance of dishwashing operations which includes washing and stocking china, silver, glassware, pots, pans, and other kitchen utensils. This position demands a thorough understanding of the correct use of cleaning chemicals, the operation and upkeep of sanitation machinery, and constant vigilance to maintain safety standards in the kitchen and dining areas.

The Steward is essential to the smooth operation of kitchen activities, ensuring that all dining ware is adequately cleaned, sanitized, and readily available for use. This role also entails maintaining clean and dry floors, walls, and drains within dishwashing areas, preventing hazards, and supporting both back-of-house restaurant areas and the kitchen line with timely replenishments. The Steward frequently liaises with supervisors and kitchen staff to coordinate daily cleaning tasks, ensuring operational readiness and compliance with health standards.

Safety is paramount in this role; the Steward is expected to identify and mitigate any safety risks arising from misplaced items or chemical use. In addition, the Steward must rigorously follow material safety data sheets (MSDS) procedures to prevent accidents and injuries. This role requires physical stamina, as it involves prolonged standing, lifting heavy items, and performing duties in varying temperatures and noise levels.

Customer service is also an integral part of the Steward's duties, involving professional interaction with both internal staff and guests to maintain a welcoming environment. The position is critical in supporting overall restaurant operations and contributing to a team-oriented culture focused on excellence and efficiency.

This is a full-time, potentially shift-based position that may require working nights, weekends, and holidays to meet the demands of the hospitality industry. Candidates must be prepared to operate in a dynamic environment with varied conditions, including exposure to smoke, heat, cold, and noise. The role offers an opportunity to be part of a dedicated team within a respected Food and Beverage Operations department, with the chance to develop expertise in commercial kitchen sanitation and safety protocols.
