The current position available is for a Kitchen Steward, a vital role within the hospitality team responsible for maintaining cleanliness and ensuring the availability of essential cooking utensils and service ware. This role supports cooks, bus persons, and food servers by transporting and cleaning necessary kitchen equipment, enabling smooth and efficient kitchen operations that contribute directly to guests’ dining experiences. Operating within a busy hotel environment that functions 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, the Kitchen Steward ensures that soiled wares are promptly and properly cleaned, kitchen equipment is well-maintained, and all cleaning tasks are effectively executed according to hotel health and safety standards. The role demands physical strength, stamina, and attention to detail to handle the high activity level and maintain safety and hygiene standards. The Kitchen Steward also collaborates with other kitchen personnel to assist in various tasks as needed, fostering a cooperative work environment.

This position requires adherence to company policies, safety procedures, and emergency guidelines to maintain a secure and efficient workplace. The incumbent will be responsible for operating commercial kitchen dish machines, cleaning various cookware, and performing general cleaning duties using approved hotel cleaning products. Maintaining a neat and professional appearance is also expected in line with the company’s team member handbook. Additionally, the Kitchen Steward must manage potential hazards by reporting unsafe conditions and incidents to management, promoting a culture of safety and care. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior experience in a kitchen or hospitality environment preferred
  • Physical strength and stamina to perform demanding tasks
  • Ability to push or pull service carts weighing up to 100 lbs
  • Ability to grasp, lift, carry or push goods up to 100 lbs
  • Ability to stand, walk, twist, bend, and reach for extended periods
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and safety protocols
  • Must maintain a neat and professional appearance
  • Willingness to work varied shifts including nights, weekends and holidays

Job Qualifications

  • Hold a current food handler card
  • Knowledge of service ware maintenance to complement guest experience
  • Ability to operate commercial kitchen dish machine according to hotel and health department standards
  • Ability to comprehend and apply written product labeling instructions
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment
  • Good physical stamina and manual dexterity
  • Strong understanding of safety and hygiene standards

Job Duties

  • Transport and clean cooking utensils and service ware to provide appropriate equipment for cooks, bus persons and food servers
  • Sort soiled ware promptly and carefully for proper washing
  • Wash and replace all ware in designated storage areas
  • Keep dish machine properly cleaned and filled with water per hotel standards
  • Clean kettles, tilt skillets, pots and pans promptly and thoroughly
  • Perform general cleaning tasks using standard hotel cleaning products
  • Clean and dry floors to prevent slip and fall accidents
  • Separate linen from other debris
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures
  • Follow safety and security rules
  • Know department fire prevention and emergency procedures
  • Utilize protective equipment
  • Report unsafe conditions, accidents, injuries, near-misses, and property damage to management
  • Maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance
  • Perform related duties as requested by management
  • Assist other kitchen personnel when needed
