Hypsi is the signature restaurant located within the new Hotel Daphne in the vibrant Houston Heights neighborhood. This full-service establishment combines Italian-inspired cuisine with a distinct Houston spirit, offering guests an experience that features a robust pasta program and approachable, elegant entrées. The restaurant's unique charm is further highlighted by its signature roaming mozzarella cart, serving hand-pulled cheeses accompanied by curated add-ons such as pickled vegetables, aged vinegars, and cold-pressed olive oil. As a newly opened venue, Hypsi is building a passionate and hospitality-driven team to provide exceptional dining experiences that resonate with locals and visitors alike. The restaurant is poised to expand its service beyond dinner to include breakfast and lunch, aiming to become a cornerstone of the Houston Heights dining scene.
The Steward position at Hypsi is a critical role within the culinary team, reporting directly to the Sous Chef(s). This full-time role involves maintaining the cleanliness and organization of kitchen and dining areas, ensuring that dishes, glassware, flatware, pots, pans, and kitchen equipment are spotless and ready for use. Stewards work closely with both front-of-house and back-of-house teams, facilitating smooth operations and contributing to an overall positive customer experience. The position demands strong communication skills, physical stamina to lift and handle moderate weights, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Job Requirements
- Able to perform the essential functions consistent safely and successfully with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting quality standards
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
- Must be able to sit, stand, and squat frequently
Job Qualifications
- Six (6) months related experience in hospitality or service industry preferred
- Ability to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) of the workplace
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedures manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees or guests
Job Duties
- Adhere to all standards of operations, policies and procedures, manuals, training material, memos and verbal instruction
- Bus dining room and patio, keep tables clear of dishes and food remnants
- Wash dishes, glassware, flatware, pots, and/or pans using dishwashers or by hand
- Place clean dishes, utensils, and cooking equipment in storage areas
- Maintain kitchen work areas, equipment, and utensils in clean and orderly condition
- Stock supplies such as food and utensils in serving stations, cupboards, refrigerators, and salad bars
- Sweep and scrub floors
- Clean garbage cans with water or steam
- Sort and remove trash, placing it in designated pickup areas
- Assist in unloading deliveries (food and supplies)
- Ensure open lines of communication via email, logbooks, meetings, etc., to ensure all needs of the restaurant are met
- Maintain a high level of cleanliness and safety in the work area
- Ensure that all equipment is maintained in good, safe working condition
- Maintain an increased awareness of safety issues throughout the property
- Keep abreast of safety and emergency procedures and OSHA requirements
- Attend relevant meetings
