The role of a Steward or Dishwasher at Hyatt Regency Houston is a vital position within the hotel's Culinary team. This position focuses on maintaining the cleanliness and organization of all hotel china, silverware, dishware, glassware, and cookware, which are essential elements in delivering an outstanding dining experience to guests. The Steward ensures the smooth and efficient management of back-of-house Culinary duties, including the upkeep of kitchen service areas and the maintenance and storage of kitchen equipment. This role also involves assisting banquet operations by preparing and maintaining necessary food items and supplies, supporting event setups, and ensuring all areas adhere to the highest standards of hygiene and safety. Working as a Steward means being a crucial contributor to the overall success of Hyatt Regency Houston's food and beverage operations.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • food handlers certification
  • previous experience in dishwashing or stewarding preferred
  • ability to work varied hours including weekends and holidays
  • ability to stand for extended periods
  • ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • strong attention to detail
  • good communication skills
  • ability to follow health and safety protocols

Job Qualifications

  • A true desire to satisfy the needs of others
  • ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • ability to work varied schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays to accommodate banquet event schedules
  • ability to lift, push, pull a moderate amount of weight (up to 50lbs)
  • ability to stand for long periods of time and walk moderate distances
  • bilingual in English and Spanish preferred but not required
  • food handlers certification required
  • previous experience in a similar role, preferably in a high-volume banquet setting
  • attention to detail

Job Duties

  • Clean and sanitize all hotel china, dishware, glassware, and cookware
  • ensure back of house areas, including kitchens and pantries, are clean and organized
  • assist with the setup and breakdown of banquet service equipment
  • support banquet operations by maintaining cleanliness and providing necessary food items and/or supplies
  • adhere to health and safety standards, including proper use of cleaning chemicals
  • monitor inventory of cleaning supplies, china, glassware, dishware, cookware, and banquet equipment
  • maintain kitchen equipment cleanliness
  • run food and assist with plate ups or buffets
  • review event orders to ensure preparedness
