The Steward role at Sonesta is critical in supporting the culinary and Food and Beverage teams to ensure that cleanliness and sanitation standards meet the company's high expectations. This full-time position offers a competitive pay rate of $14 per hour and involves working in a fast-paced kitchen environment where attention to detail and a commitment to hygiene are paramount. As part of the Sonesta team, the Steward helps maintain the integrity of food preparation areas, kitchen utensils, and equipment, ensuring everything is spotless, sanitized, and readily available for use. The role includes handling and operating dish machines, cleaning pots, pans, glassware, silverware, and other kitchen tools, as well as proper storage to prevent damage or contamination.
This position demands physical stamina given the requirement to lift and move heavy objects, maintain constant standing periods during shifts, and tolerate temperature variations such as those found in freezers or loading docks. The role also requires flexibility with shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and occasionally extended 10 to 12-hour workdays. The Steward is expected to uphold the Sonesta standards of safety, sanitation, and personal grooming while contributing positively to the workplace culture by going above and beyond for both guests and coworkers. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
- Previous experience as a kitchen worker preferred
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Capacity to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and push/pull equipment weighing up to 250 pounds
- Flexibility to work variable shifts including weekends, holidays, days, nights, and overnights
- Ability to tolerate extreme temperatures such as freezers and loading dock environments
- Ability to stand for entire shifts
- Commitment to maintaining safety and sanitation standards
Job Qualifications
- Previous experience as a kitchen worker preferred
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred

Job Duties
- Operate dish machine, clean and sanitize pots and pans, china, glassware, flatware, kitchen equipment and other utensils
- Store all clean pots and pans, china, glassware, flatware, kitchen equipment and other utensils to its proper storage location using care to minimize breakage
- Clean and sanitize the kitchen and food preparation areas
- Sweep and mop all kitchen floors and other assigned areas
- Collect and properly dispose of trash
- Service food for the employee cafeteria as specified by the chef or kitchen supervisor
- Adhere to established safety and sanitation guidelines
