Job Description

The role available is a full-time, non-management position within the Food and Beverage & Culinary department. This position offers an hourly pay rate of $20.19 and is based onsite at the 400 Renaissance Center location in downtown Detroit. The selected candidate will be responsible for operating and maintaining various cleaning equipment and tools, such as the dishwashing machine, hand wash stations, pot-scrubbing stations, and trash compactors. They will be involved in washing and disinfecting kitchen and storeroom areas, tables, equipment, and various utensils including knives. This role requires receiving deliveries, proper storage of perishables, and rotation of stock to ensure quality and safety standards.

Beyond routine cleaning tasks, this position demands adherence to comprehensive safety and security policies, reporting maintenance needs, and ensuring all procedures are followed accurately. The candidate will utilize detergents and sanitizing chemicals effectively in sinks to ensure hygienic dishwashing practices. Responsibilities also include inspecting, stacking, and organizing cleaned items, sending soiled items back for re-washing if necessary, and breaking down dirty bus tubs and trash appropriately. The role requires regular cleaning and maintenance of all assigned areas, including mopping floors and safely disposing of glass and recyclable materials.

The role is physically demanding; the candidate must be able to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds, stand, sit, or walk for extended periods, and perform repetitive motions such as bending, stooping, and twisting. The preferred candidate is expected to work with open and flexible availability, embracing the dynamic nature of the hospitality environment. Job Duties

  • Operate and maintain cleaning equipment and tools including dishwashing machine, hand wash stations, pot-scrubbing station, and trash compactor
  • wash and disinfect kitchen and storeroom areas, tables, tools, knives, and equipment
  • receive deliveries, store perishables properly, and rotate stock
  • ensure clean wares are stored appropriately
  • use detergent, rinsing, and sanitizing chemicals in 3-compartment sink to clean dishes
  • inspect, pull, and stack cleaned items, send soiled items back for re-scrubbing and re-washing
  • rack and spray racked items with hot water to loosen and remove food residue
  • sort, soak, and wash/re-wash silverware
  • breakdown dirty bus tubs
  • empty and maintain trashcans and dumpster area
  • clean and mop all areas in assigned departments
  • dispose of glass in proper containers
  • break down cardboard boxes and place recyclables in recycle bin
  • follow all company, safety, and security policies and procedures
  • report maintenance needs, accidents, injuries, and unsafe conditions to manager
  • complete safety training and certifications
  • protect company assets
  • communicate clearly and professionally
  • develop and maintain positive working relationships
  • support team to reach common goals
