The Steward position at Watermark Baton Rouge Hotel is a full-time role reporting directly to the Food and Beverage Manager. This role is essential to maintaining the cleanliness and overall appearance of the hotel’s dining areas by ensuring that all china, glassware, silverware, and kitchen equipment are thoroughly cleaned, sanitized, and correctly stored. The Steward will work closely with server assistants and other team members to uphold the highest standards of hygiene and presentation, contributing to the exceptional guest experience the hotel promises. The role demands physical stamina as it involves labor-intensive tasks that require lifting and moving heavy objects, as well as standing for long periods during a shift. Beyond cleaning duties, the Steward also plays a role in ensuring tables remain clean and presentable, with all necessary dining materials stocked appropriately throughout the service.
In addition to hands-on operational responsibilities such as organizing dishwashing trays, operating washing machines, drying cleaned items, and restocking them in their designated locations, the Steward may also be tasked with deep-cleaning activities. These include scrubbing trash cans, cleaning vents, maintaining ice bins, replacing light bulbs, and emptying trash. The position requires a commitment to friendly and service-oriented interaction with guests and colleagues alike, maintaining a polished personal appearance in proper uniform and adherence to name tag policies. Job Duties
- cleaning, sanitizing and drying all china, glassware, silverware and other equipment returned to dish hall station
- ensuring all tables are kept clean and presentable with clean china, glassware, silverware and linen
- maintaining the dish washing station and organizing items for washing
- operating washing machine and drying items before restocking
- performing detailed cleaning of vents, trash cans, chairs, ice bins, and other food service areas
- replacing light bulbs and setting up sanitizers
- emptying trash and taking trash to the dumpster
- approaching guests and employees in a friendly, service-oriented manner, maintaining high standards of personal appearance and grooming
