This part-time Steward position at the Museum of Science & Industry offers an hourly wage of $17.00 and involves varying shifts, requiring open availability. The Steward plays a vital role in supporting the food service operations by maintaining a clean, safe, and organized back-of-house environment. This is essential for ensuring smooth daily operations and high-quality service during events and regular restaurant hours. Stewards work under the direction of the Steward Supervisor or culinary leadership, taking charge of sanitation, warewashing, equipment care, and general cleanliness throughout the kitchen and service support areas.

In this role, you will support the opening and closing sanitation procedures to ensure the food service areas meet the highest standards of hygiene and safety. You will be responsible for handling waste removal, recycling, and grease disposal according to established procedures, helping Sodexo meet its environmental sustainability goals. Additionally, you will assist with organizing and properly storing equipment, supplies, and service ware — an important task that helps maintain efficiency and readiness for service.

Your duties also include maintaining floors, drains, and work surfaces, ensuring the entire workspace complies with cleanliness and safety standards. The position requires physical stamina as you will frequently lift and move items up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift up to 40 pounds. Being punctual and reliable is crucial, as the role supports both daily operational demands and special event service needs.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience preferred
  • Previous experience in stewarding, sanitation, or food service support roles preferred
  • Ability to lift and move up to 35 pounds frequently and up to 40 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to work varying shifts including days and hours with open availability preferred
  • Punctuality and regular attendance
  • Ability to follow established sanitation and safety procedures
  • Willingness to perform physical tasks required by the role

Job Qualifications
