Watermark Baton Rouge Hotel is a unique and historic luxury hotel located in the heart of downtown Baton Rouge, Louisiana. This iconic establishment is a proud member of Marriott's Autograph Collection, offering guests an unmatched blend of classic design and modern comfort. The hotel is housed in one of Baton Rouge's most treasured landmarks - the former Louisiana Trust & Savings Bank headquarters, originally built in 1927 as the city's first skyscraper. As a full-time Steward reported to the Food and Beverage Manager, the role is vital to maintaining the hotel's standards of cleanliness, hospitality, and operational efficiency. This position involves the meticulous cleaning, sanitizing, and drying of all china, glassware, silverware, and other equipment returned from various outlets such as server assistants. The Steward ensures that all dining areas, including tables, are kept impeccably clean and well-stocked with the necessary utensils, glassware, and linens. Physical stamina and strength are key, as the job requires exertion of up to 100 pounds occasionally and the ability to stand for an entire shift. The Steward must embody a service-oriented attitude, consistently presenting themselves with professionalism, proper uniform, and a name tag. Beyond dishwashing tasks, the Steward participates in various cleaning duties including vents, trash receptacles, detailed furniture cleaning, and restocking essential cleaning supplies.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to exert heavy physical work including lifting up to 100 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to frequently exert up to 50 pounds of force and constantly exert 20 pounds
  • Ability to stand for the entire shift
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to cleanliness and hygiene
  • Friendly demeanor with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Must wear proper uniform and name tag while working
  • Flexible to perform various cleaning and maintenance duties as needed

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior experience in a hospitality or food service environment preferred
  • Ability to exert heavy physical effort including lifting up to 100 pounds
  • Strong attention to detail and organization skills
  • Friendly and service-oriented attitude
  • Ability to stand for extended periods during shift
  • Knowledge of cleaning and sanitizing procedures
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team

Job Duties

  • Clean, sanitize and dry all china, glassware, silverware and other equipment returned to the dish hall
  • Ensure all tables are clean and presentable with clean china, glassware, silverware and linen
  • Maintain the dish washing station and operate washing machines
  • Organize and place items in trays for the washing machine
  • Dry and return items to their proper stock location
  • Perform additional cleaning duties such as cleaning vents, scrubbing trash cans, detailed cleaning of chairs, cleaning ice bins, replacing light bulbs, setting up sanitizers, emptying trash and taking it to the dumpster
  • Approach all encounters with guests and employees in a friendly, service-oriented manner
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming while wearing the proper uniform and name tag
