The Sterile Processing Technician role at Houston Methodist is an essential part of the Surgical Services team, tasked with ensuring the timely and safe preparation of surgical instruments and medical equipment. This role involves the decontamination, assembly, inspection, wrapping, and sterilization of medical instruments, which are critical for maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and infection control. The technician works closely with the Operating Room (OR) staff and ancillary departments, ensuring a consistent workflow between Central Sterile Processing and the OR. By adhering to strict sterilization protocols aligned with AAMI standards and manufacturer instructions, the technician helps prevent infections and guarantees that all surgical instruments and trays are sterile and ready for use.

This position requires excellent communication and customer service skills to interact effectively with healthcare team members, including physicians, nurses, and fellow technicians. Additionally, the role demands a high degree of attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to utilize electronic instrument tracking systems and basic computer applications such as Microsoft Office. The Sterile Processing Technician is a non-exempt position and requires staff to be available for on-call duties during emergencies such as disasters or severe weather events.
