Job Description

Located in Tampa, Florida, at 3100 E Fletcher Ave, AdventHealth is currently seeking a qualified Central Service Technician to join their team on a full-time, day-shift basis. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the highest standards of sterilization and instrumentation management within the hospital environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for utilizing instrument tracking systems for accurate reporting, maintaining compliance with established policies, and ensuring that all equipment and instruments are processed safely and efficiently following manufacturer instructions and healthcare standards.

This role requires vigilant monitoring of sterilization practices, environmental safety, and infection control standards. The Central Service Technician supervises the sterilization equipment and ensures that any malfunctioning devices are reported and removed from service promptly. They are expected to promote a safe working atmosphere by enforcing the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and responding appropriately to emergencies. The position also serves as a liaison between various hospital departments to ensure optimal communication and availability of surgical instruments, emphasizing customer service and teamwork.

In addition to the technical responsibilities, the role encourages professional development through continuing education seminars and in-service training to stay current with advancements in equipment and sterilization procedures. The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills, critical thinking, leadership capabilities, and the ability to manage time efficiently while working independently when necessary. Job Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • 1+ year of experience
  • Certified Registered Central Service Tech (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT)
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English by reading, writing legibly, speaking, and comprehending
  • Capable of lifting 35 lbs independently and prolonged standing
  • Willingness to learn and work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends

Job Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Certified Registered Central Service Tech (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) required
  • Knowledge of sterilization standards
  • Knowledge of surgical instrumentation
  • Basic computer skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills demonstrating compassion and respect
  • Ability to function independently and follow written or verbal instructions accurately
  • Capable of lifting 35 lbs independently and prolonged standing
  • Knowledge or experience with computerized instrument tracking system preferred
  • Critical thinking, leadership, decision-making, adaptability, time management, conflict resolution, cooperation, mentorship, and positivity
  • Strong background in all areas of central supply
  • Knowledge of infection control procedures, fundamentals of management, purchasing procedures, and parameters of steam and ethylene oxide sterilization
  • Familiarity with proper functioning of all mechanical equipment necessary to decontaminate, sanitize, sterilize, and aerate all items reprocessed
  • Ability to communicate information accurately and timely, effectively train new staff, and maintain appropriate inventory management
  • Previous leadership or management experience preferred
  • Knowledge of all regulatory guidelines and standards of practice as it relates to relevant healthcare standards organizations

Job Duties

  • Utilize instrument tracking system for reports and quality feedback
  • Maintain competency by attending continuing education seminars and in-services on new equipment and instrumentation
  • Communicate with vendors to promote compliance with policy and report non-compliance to leadership
  • Identify and report any environmental concerns to management team
  • Assure that manufacturer instructions for use are closely followed for all equipment and instruments that are reprocessed
  • Monitor sterilization practices to ensure all standards are met and take corrective action when necessary
  • Keep accurate records of all sterilizer loads and monitor sterilization equipment
  • Delegate equipment as out of service when necessary
  • Ensure safe work practices for all employees
  • Monitor staff use of PPE in decontamination areas and take appropriate action in emergency situations
  • Promote a safe environment and practice awareness and control of hazards that may endanger patients, visitors, and employees
  • Monitor work environment to ensure infection control standards are met, including daily cleaning and environmental controls
  • Act as a liaison between hospital departments to ensure customer needs are met and communicate with staff regarding instrumentation availability
  • Meet regularly with leadership to discuss departmental needs and quality monitoring results
  • Other duties as assigned
