Job Description
Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital is a state-of-the-art, full-service acute-care hospital located in The Woodlands, Texas. Opened in June 2017, the hospital spans 725,000 square feet and offers a wide range of services parallel to those provided by Houston Methodist's flagship hospital in the Texas Medical Center. The hospital campus, strategically situated at the intersection of Interstate 45 and Texas State Highway 242, also boasts two medical office buildings. These buildings host various specialty centers including a Breast Care Center, Cancer Center, Infusion Center, Heart and Vascular Services, Neurology, Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, Rehabilitation Services, Wellness Services, an Outpatient Laboratory, and multiple multispecialty physician practices.
In January 2022, Houston Methodist The Woodlands expanded further with the opening of the Healing Tower. This $250 million project added 106 beds specializing in medical-surgical and women's services, along with nine new operating rooms. The expansion also included enhancements to the endoscopy center, emergency department, and diagnostic imaging department, featuring an advanced neurodiagnostic and interventional center. Houston Methodist prides itself on providing high-quality, compassionate care and innovative medical services, supported by its dedication to excellence and community health. As an Equal Opportunity Employer, Houston Methodist fosters an inclusive work environment nurturing professional growth and diversity.
The Sterile Processing Liaison position at Houston Methodist is a critical role within the hospital's Operating Room (OR) suite, specifically supporting various service line specialties such as Neuro, Plastics, and General Surgery. This full-time day role is vital in ensuring seamless surgical procedures by managing and anticipating the sterile instrument needs for the OR staff. The liaison reviews daily and weekly OR schedules alongside instrument reports generated from the electronic instrument tracking system to forecast instrument demand, identify tray conflicts, and set priorities for assembly. By performing daily rounds within the OR suite, the Sterile Processing Liaison addresses any arising instrument or supply issues, collaborating closely with the OR Charge Nurse or Service Line Manager to resolve conflicts efficiently.
Serving also as a fully functional Sterile Processing Technician when necessary, the liaison role demands advanced knowledge of sterilization techniques, surgical instruments, and the interconnected role of Sterile Processing within hospital operations. The liaison is instrumental in fostering communication and workflow between the Sterile Processing Department and the OR staff, driving continuous improvement and ensuring patient safety through meticulous sterilization processes and careful management of surgical equipment. This position requires strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently, and a proactive approach to problem-solving to help maintain optimal surgical instrument availability and support surgical team efficiency.
