The Sterile Processing Education Coordinator position at University Hospitals is a full-time role requiring 40 hours per week, primarily during evening shifts with day shift training. This role is essential for maintaining the highest standards in the sterilization and reprocessing of reusable medical devices throughout the entire service territory of the hospitals. The position also includes a $5,000 sign-on bonus for full-time hires externally, underscoring the value placed on this role.
In this position, the Education Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing a standardized educational program that includes orientation, ongoing training, and competency assessments for all sterile processing staff. This role requires traveling throughout the service area to ensure consistency in training and adherence to all regulatory and institutional standards. The incumbent will collaborate with other educators and leadership to design system-wide educational materials, utilize digital learning platforms, and ensure continuous staff development as technologies and clinical practices evolve.
The successful candidate will support staff adaptability to new processes, ensure all new and transferring employees complete orientation within the mandated time frame, and maintain comprehensive records of training and competencies. Additionally, this role involves conducting quality assurance checks, resolving workflow issues, and facilitating communication between departments and educational institutions. The coordinator must also guarantee compliance with all pertinent regulations, including DNV, Joint Commission, CMS, OSHA, and AAMI standards, while upholding patient confidentiality and safety protocols.

Job Requirements
- High school equivalent or GED
- Four or more years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience in a hospital central sterile processing environment
- Certification as CRCST or CSPDT or HSPA
- Ability to travel throughout the University Hospitals service territory
- Effective communication skills
- Knowledge of AAMI ST79 Standards
- Ability to perform regular physical activities including standing, walking, lifting up to 50 lbs, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching
- Must complete day shift training
- Commitment to patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
Job Qualifications
- High school equivalent or GED required
- Four or more years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience in a hospital central sterile processing environment
- Previous experience as a CSP Departmental Supervisor or Sterile Processing Educator preferred
- Effective communication skills
- In-depth knowledge of AAMI ST79 standards
- Proficiency in word processing, excel, and powerpoint preferred
- Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification required or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) certification required or Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) certification required
- Instrument Specialist Certification through CBSPD or HSPA preferred
Job Duties
- Providing programs that support staff's ability to learn, adapt and change swiftly as new technology emerges and clinical scope evolves
- Educating and motivating staff through appropriate orientation, training, communication of expectations and industry standards
- Performing CSiQ quality checks to track, research, and resolve scanning issues and workflow breakdown
- Continually assessing the competency and performance level for all staff and developing specific training programs and modules in response to process improvement opportunities
- Assuring that all new and transferring employees complete New Hire Employee Orientation within 90 days of hire or transfer and maintaining training records
- Acting as a liaison to Sterile Processing schools and students for clinical rotations
- Ensuring all staff complete yearly competency requirements and providing materials to assist uncertified staff with certification preparation
- Coordinating and planning continuing education opportunities to ensure certified staff maintain certification
- Performing oversight for departmental quality assurance by conducting regular audits and reporting non-compliance issues
- Ensuring adherence to all DNV, JC, CMS, OSHA, and AAMI regulations and maintaining positive relationships with management, patients, and coworkers
