Job Description
ABM (NYSE: ABM) is one of the world’s largest providers of facility services and solutions, committed to creating cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environments. With a legacy dating back to 1909, ABM offers a broad array of essential services including janitorial, engineering, parking, electrical and lighting, energy solutions, HVAC and mechanical work, landscaping, and mission critical solutions. Serving over 20,000 clients globally and employing more than 100,000 team members across 350+ offices in the United States and internationally, ABM supports a diverse range of industries such as commercial office buildings, universities, airports, hospitals, data centers, manufacturing and distribution facilities, and entertainment venues. They focus on improving the spaces that matter most, providing forward-looking performance solutions that enhance operational efficiency and safety.
The Stationary Engineer position at ABM is an opportunity to join a leading force in facility management with a role centered on maintaining, operating, and ensuring the safety and efficiency of critical heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment and systems. This role involves performing scheduled maintenance, safety inspections, and repairs on a variety of equipment such as boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, air compressors, engines, and motors. The Stationary Engineer is also responsible for operating or assisting with operating heating and ventilating equipment, combustion engines, fans, and siphons. This position demands flexibility to complete all assigned tasks, ensuring adherence to safety practices and compliance with company and regulatory standards.
The schedule for this role is Monday through Friday from 3:30 PM to 11:30 PM, providing a consistent evening shift. Pay is competitive and based on experience and licensing, with eligibility for a 10% shift differential. ABM also offers licensing opportunities for experienced boiler, chiller, and cooling tower technicians, providing a pathway for career growth within the company.
This role requires a hands-on technician skilled in standard maintenance practices such as overhauling or replacing valves, gaskets, or bearings, lubricating moving parts, replacing filters, and removing soot or corrosion from boilers to ensure efficient operation. The Stationary Engineer will diagnose and repair electrical, HVAC, and plumbing equipment and read operational data from gauges, meters, and charts to monitor system performance. Monitoring boiler water, chemical, and fuel levels, activating valves to regulate these elements, and routinely checking safety devices are also critical duties.
In addition to routine maintenance, this role includes monitoring and repairing complex equipment including cooling towers, chillers, HVAC systems, heat exchangers, and water-cooled systems. The engineer uses electrical and electronic testing equipment for troubleshooting and repairs and conducts chemical analysis on cooling and boiler water to maintain adequate disinfection and prevent corrosion through chemical adjustments. This role demands a solid foundation in safety standards and environmental regulations.
At ABM, the Stationary Engineer will benefit from a comprehensive benefits package and the professional growth opportunities available within a company recognized for its commitment to diversity, inclusion, and veteran employment support. ABM is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer and offers accommodations for individuals with disabilities. They also participate in the E-Verify program to confirm employment eligibility. Joining ABM means becoming part of a military-friendly company that supports the career development of veterans and provides a world-class training program to enhance skills and career prospects.
