This non-exempt position requires individuals to deliver friendly, efficient, and courteous service to customers, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere that aligns with Hy-Vee's core values. The Barista is responsible for reviewing and filling customer orders accurately, handling food safely, and maintaining cleanliness in the work area. The position often requires working night and weekend shifts, emphasizing flexibility and commitment. Baristas at Hy-Vee run registers, manage product supplies, check in inventory, and handle other related tasks as needed. Job Requirements

Must be able to physically perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly
Visual requirements including clarity of vision at distances between 20 inches and 20 feet with or without correction, color vision, depth perception, and field of vision
Must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motions
Must report to work when scheduled and on time
Must adhere to company policies and individual store guidelines
Night and weekend shifts required
Employment contingent upon successful pre-employment drug screen

Job Qualifications

Less than high school or equivalent experience
Six months or less of similar or related work experience
Ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or verbal instructions
Ability to do simple addition and subtraction
Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions
Ability to write identifying information
Ability to request supplies orally or in writing

Job Duties

Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store
Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, whether the encounter takes place in the employee's designated department or elsewhere in the store
Makes an effort to learn customers' names and to address them by name whenever possible
Assists customers by escorting them to products, securing out-of-reach items, loading or unloading heavy items, making note of and passing along customer suggestions or requests, and performing other tasks to enhance the shopping experience
Answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly, helpful service including taking customer orders
Takes customer orders at the counter
Works with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment
Handles food safely and ensures the work area is always clean and neat
Reviews the status and appearance of food for freshness
Ensures adequate food supply is ready and on hand, following a production list
Anticipates product needs daily
Prepares and replenishes products as necessary
Checks in product, puts product away, and may review invoices
Runs department registers and processes payments where applicable
Removes trash promptly
Maintains strict adherence to personal hygiene, dress, company policies, and store guidelines
Reports to work on time and when scheduled
Washes dishes as necessary
Orders products and supplies
Prices products
Assists in other store areas
Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned
