This position is for the role of Staff Engineer - Survivability, located in Melbourne, Florida. The successful candidate will join a diverse team dedicated to enhancing the survivability of defense air systems through the application of advanced materials and processes. This role is integral to Northrop Grumman’s leadership in low observable (stealth) technology and involves working on all phases of development, production, and maintenance of stealth platforms that are critical for national security. The Staff Engineer will focus on radar cross-section (RCS) analysis, survivability engineering, and integration of survivability technologies to reduce the detectability of aircraft in the electromagnetic spectrum.
The role involves supporting a diverse portfolio of research and technology development activities with a multidisciplinary team to optimize survivability technologies for air-based defense systems. Responsibilities include developing and implementing predictive analysis codes, building and testing physical and verification models, and integrating specialty materials and advanced technologies with existing and next-generation aircraft platforms. This opportunity requires full-time onsite commitment at the Melbourne facility with no remote or hybrid work options. The position also requires the candidate to maintain or obtain a U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance and involves up to 10-25% travel.

Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline
- 12 years of related engineering experience or master's degree with 10 years of experience or PhD with 8 years of experience
- Ability to transfer and maintain U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance
- Experience in applied electromagnetics or aircraft survivability
- Experience with CAD software such as CATIA, Unigraphics, or NX
- Willingness to work full-time on-site in Melbourne, Florida
- Ability to travel up to 25%
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline and 12 years of related engineering experience, or a master's degree in a STEM discipline and 10 years of related engineering experience, or a PhD in a STEM discipline and 8 years of related engineering experience
- Applied electromagnetics and/or aircraft survivability knowledge
- Comprehensive understanding of electromagnetic energy transmission through space and within materials
- Experience in one or more CAD software solutions such as CATIA, Unigraphics, or NX
- Proven experience with 3D Method of Moments and 3D Physical Optics codes
- Programming experience in C++, MATLAB, Python, or other technical languages
- Experience with RCS data processing tools such as Knowbell, Saber, or Pioneer
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to use CAE and/or FEA tools such as FMS, Patran, Cubit
Job Duties
