Job Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance prior to starting
  • 6 years minimum experience in fiber optic, opto-electronic and/or optical components and systems
  • 10 years experience in developing and delivering technical presentations and leading small groups
  • 10 years experience working with cross-functional teams such as Design Engineering, Manufacturing and Production Engineering, Quality Engineering, Supply Chain and Procurement
  • Bachelor's degree with 12 years of experience or master’s degree with 10 years of experience or Ph.D. with 8 years of experience in relevant technical fields
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and project management skills
  • Work location Linthicum, MD
  • Must be able to participate in up to 10% travel
  • A current or active DoD Secret clearance is not required to apply but must be obtained prior to start

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with 12 years of experience, master's degree with 10 years of experience, or Ph.D. with 8 years of experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or related technical fields
  • Experience developing and delivering technical presentations and leading small groups
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams including Design Engineering, Manufacturing and Production Engineering, Quality Engineering, Supply Chain and Procurement
  • Experience with fiber optic, opto-electronic and optical components and systems
  • Strong leadership, teamwork and interpersonal communication skills
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance including Specialty Metals, Counterfeit Part Prevention, and Conflict Minerals
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as ISO, IEC, Telcordia, IPC, VITA, JEDEC, MIL-STD, NASA
  • Understanding of optical performance, tolerancing and integration tradeoffs
  • Experience defining engineering processes, standards and technical roadmaps

Job Duties

  • Prepare and review all data for Program Design Team and Configuration Control Board review including screening and qualification test plans
  • Analyze and select alternates for electronic components on Bills of Material to resolve obsolescence, long lead time issues, and drive parts standardization
  • Assist with DMS/EOL identification and notification
  • Responsible for all components used on the program and document program specific part requirements
  • Lead new Component Request, approvals, and Component Drawing development to meet program requirements
  • Support Destructive Physical Analysis reports, failure analysis and problem resolution for parts within the Commodity
  • Act as gate keeper for commodity components to ensure environmental application, authenticity, and traceability
  • Chair commodity teams responsible for reviewing all components within the Commodity for production design use
  • Utilize project management skills to manage multiple priorities and cross-functional groups to meet part requirements and deadlines
  • Lead/support across all programs when necessary
  • Define and own component strategy and roadmaps for fiber optic, opto-electronic and optical components
  • Influence system architecture and performance budgets through component trade studies and design recommendations
  • Participate in major program milestones such as Design Reviews
