Job Description

Young Life is a faith-based organization dedicated to evangelism and discipleship, with a mission to introduce adolescents to Jesus Christ and help them grow in their faith. Established as a Christian ministry, Young Life operates across the United States and internationally, focusing on building meaningful relationships with young people through various programs and outreach activities. The organization places a strong emphasis on Christian beliefs and requires all employees and volunteers to share in its faith commitments, including signing a Statement of Faith. Young Life fosters a collaborative community environment centered around spiritual growth and Christian service, making it a powerful influence in many youths’ lives and the communities it serves.

The Staff Associate II position in Chapel Hill, NC, offers an exceptional opportunity to be deeply involved in ministry activities while developing leadership and ministry skills. This role is both formative and hands-on, designed to provide formal training combined with direct field ministry experience. The staff associate will hold some area responsibilities and participate in nurturing a vibrant spiritual life, including prayer, reflection, and participation in the church community. Integral to this position is guiding others spiritually, equipping volunteer leaders, and being actively engaged in various ministry functions such as contact work, clubs, and camps.

In the role of Staff Associate II, the individual will be expected to undergo a structured training program that includes New Staff Training, Leadership courses, Apologetics, and other ministry skill development activities. This training is supervised by regional directors or trainers to ensure personal spiritual maturity and strengthen character. The position encourages continuous growth through participation in regional training meetings and ministry development opportunities. Candidates with a college degree are preferred, but a demonstrated commitment to ministry and Christian leadership is paramount.

This role's ministry functions span several areas: spiritual development, leadership development, resource development, direct ministry, and ministry support. The staff associate will cultivate their personal spiritual disciplines, build and maintain impactful leadership teams, foster relationships with donors and community leaders, and lead Young Life clubs and campaigns with excellence. They will also engage in fundraising activities, maintain administrative and financial stewardship, and contribute to strategic planning efforts. Moreover, the staff member must be ready and willing to serve in diverse environments, including physically demanding camp settings that require resilience to heat, cold, and outdoor activities such as hiking and horseback riding.

Young Life's Staff Associate II position not only allows a person to enter full-time Christian ministry but also nurtures leadership skills, relational ministry abilities, and strategic thinking. The work involves a dynamic blend of pastoral care, organizational responsibility, and community engagement aimed at advancing the organization’s mission. Employees embody the values and spiritual formation necessary for effective Christian ministry both inside and outside the workplace. Applicants must be committed to upholding Young Life’s biblical standards and demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, confidentiality, and relational abilities with both youth and adults.

In summary, the Staff Associate II role with Young Life in Chapel Hill, NC, is ideal for individuals passionate about youth ministry and Christian service who desire a comprehensive growth experience in a supportive and mission-driven environment.
