Wood operates in over 60 countries and employs approximately 55,000 people worldwide. With revenues of about $10 billion, Wood delivers performance-driven solutions throughout the asset lifecycle, supporting numerous sectors including upstream, midstream, and downstream oil and gas, power and process, environment and infrastructure, clean energy, mining, nuclear, and general industrial markets. The company is committed to providing the best technical services and fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. They uphold equal employment opportunities, emphasizing merit-based hiring without discrimination based on race, color, age, religion, gender, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran status, or other protected categories.
This exciting opportunity is for a full-time Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Senior Technical Writer/Editor based in Texas, supporting the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). The preferred work location is near TxDOT offices in Austin, Texas; however, remote work from other Wood Texas offices or from home will also be considered. The role is designed for an experienced professional, ideally with 15 or more years in the CMT field, to develop and maintain CMT technical specifications, operational manuals, procedures, and other engineering documents critical to TxDOT projects.
In this role, the Senior Technical Writer/Editor will be responsible for creating technical deliverables that comply with project requirements and client-approved templates. This involves detailed development of operating manuals, procedures, and specifications specific to construction materials testing. A key responsibility is to communicate any technical challenges, constraints, or potential shortfalls to relevant stakeholders promptly. The role demands close collaboration with the client and third parties regarding project scopes and deliverables, including attending technical meetings and providing comprehensive progress reports.
An essential aspect of the position is ensuring alignment with Wood’s and the State’s Quality Management Systems, maintaining rigorous documentation standards, and employing discipline check-sheets to monitor the development process. The Senior Technical Writer/Editor must effectively manage their workload and priorities independently while maintaining clear communication with operations leaders and project managers to anticipate and resolve project issues. Proficiency in MS Office applications and experience handling document conversions and document control systems are necessary for this vocation. Holding a Texas Professional Engineer (PE) license is a mandatory qualification.
This role offers the chance to work in a dynamic and technically demanding environment that supports critical infrastructure projects in Texas. Candidates will find opportunities for professional growth by engaging with complex technical documentation projects and joining a respected, globally recognized company focused on innovation and excellence in technical services.
