Wood Environment & Infrastructure is a globally recognized leader in providing project, engineering, and technical services tailored to the energy and industrial markets. With operations in over 60 countries and a workforce of approximately 55,000 employees, Wood delivers robust solutions that span the entire asset life cycle—from initial concept and design to decommissioning. Their extensive reach covers a variety of industrial sectors including upstream, midstream, and downstream oil and gas; power and process industries; environmental and infrastructure projects; clean energy; mining; nuclear; and general industrial services. The company’s commitment to excellence is reflected in its $10 billion in annual revenues and its ambition to be the premier technical services company to collaborate with, work for, and invest in. The company culture values diversity and inclusiveness, ensuring equal opportunity employment without regard to race, color, age, religion, gender, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran status, or other protected characteristics in line with governing laws.
This job opening is for a full-time Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Senior Technical Writer/Editor based in Texas, primarily supporting the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) with the development of specifications and technical documents specific to CMT projects. While the preferred work location is near the TxDOT offices in Austin, Texas, Wood offers flexible working options that can include remote work from other Texas offices or from home. This position plays a critical role in the preparation and development of detailed documentation such as operating manuals, procedures, and specifications that ensure compliance with rigorous project and client requirements.
The role requires a seasoned professional with typically over 15 years of experience in the CMT field, particularly with engineering specifications pertinent to CMT projects. A Texas Professional Engineer (PE) license is also required. The Senior Technical Writer/Editor will be responsible for producing technically accurate and compliant deliverables while managing timelines and quality standards set by both Wood and TxDOT. Effective communication with stakeholders, including clients and third parties, is an essential part of this role to address technical issues, constraints, and document compliance challenges promptly.
The successful candidate should have comprehensive knowledge of CMT equipment, processes, and TxDOT specifications as well as proficiency in software tools like MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project management applications. Familiarity and experience with document control systems and procedures are critical, alongside the ability to convert and manage technical data formats such as PDFs and Excel files. The role demands a highly independent worker capable of managing their work plan, prioritizing tasks, and collaborating closely with team leads and project managers. Attendance at client technical meetings and regular progress reporting will also be required.
Overall, this position merges technical expertise in construction materials testing with advanced document development skills to facilitate the successful delivery of government infrastructure projects in Texas. Wood provides an engaging work environment where professionals committed to quality and innovation can thrive, supported by a company renowned for its sustainability and diversity initiatives and its forward-thinking approach to engineering and technical services.
