Amazon is currently seeking an experienced Production Manager to oversee and run the day-to-day operations at the Boston Development Center. This role involves ownership of the entire production execution process including pilot operations, assembly build campaigns, rapid prototyping shop practices, and manufacturing process development lines. The position is crucial in ensuring that all manufacturing goals are met safely, on schedule, with high quality, and within cost targets. In this fast-moving environment where product designs and build configurations continuously evolve, the Production Manager will be expected to maintain operational stability and smooth workflow despite ambiguities and frequent changes.

This leader will act as a vital bridge between engineering and manufacturing teams to align production capabilities with evolving build requirements. With at least seven years of experience in manufacturing operations and a solid background managing supervisors and frontline teams, this individual will demonstrate proven success in delivering production targets amidst competing priorities and rapidly changing manufacturing conditions.

Additional responsibilities include workforce planning, shift scheduling, cross-training initiatives, and ensuring equipment uptime across various manufacturing technologies such as CNC machines, additive manufacturing, and assembly stations. The Production Manager will uphold safety and quality standards, promote lean manufacturing principles, and lead continuous improvement initiatives to elevate operational performance continually.

The employment type is full-time, based in North Reading, MA, with an annual base salary range from $151,000 to $204,300. This package also includes sign-on payments, restricted stock units (RSUs), and comprehensive benefits such as medical, dental, vision coverage, 401(k) matching, paid time off, parental leave, mental health support, flexible spending accounts, and adoption and surrogacy reimbursement coverage. Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, operations management, or related field
7+ years of experience in manufacturing operations or production management
at least 3 years managing supervisors and frontline teams
experience managing operations in pilot, prototype, or NPI manufacturing environments
proven track record of delivering production targets (safety, quality, schedule)
hands-on manufacturing experience with assembly, machining, or additive manufacturing
knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies

Job Qualifications

Experience hiring and developing strong talent and building a team
bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, operations management, or a related field
7+ years of experience in manufacturing operations or production management, with at least 3 years managing supervisors and frontline teams
experience managing operations in pilot, prototype, or NPI manufacturing environments with high product mix and frequent changeover
proven track record of delivering production targets (safety, quality, schedule) while managing competing priorities in fast-paced settings
hands-on comfort with manufacturing environments, assembly, machining, additive manufacturing, or similar
experience with lean manufacturing principles, standard work, and continuous improvement methodologies
six sigma green belt or six sigma black belt certification (preferred)
10+ years of production management experience with progressive leadership responsibilities in advanced hardware or electromechanical manufacturing (preferred)
experience in robotics, automotive, aerospace, or other complex hardware development environments (preferred)
experience managing both assembly operations and machine shop/prototyping shop operations (preferred)
strong analytical skills with the ability to use production data to identify trends, root causes, and improvement opportunities (preferred)
exceptional communication skills with the ability to lead diverse teams and engage effectively with engineering and leadership stakeholders (preferred)
a proven track record of delivering results in high-growth, ambiguous environments while demonstrating ownership and bias for action (aligned with Amazon leadership principles) (preferred)

Job Duties

Own the production execution across the BDC, assembly build campaigns, rapid prototyping shop, and manufacturing process development lines
deliver on production goals (safety, quality, schedule, cost)
manage and develop production supervisors and their teams (supervisors, technicians, machinists, associates)
set clear expectations, coach performance, and build a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
drive daily production planning and execution, ensure build plans are translated into actionable shift plans, allocate resources, and resolve production issues rapidly on the floor
ensure safety and quality standards are maintained across all operations
drive 5S, standard work, and housekeeping discipline
own EHS compliance for the production floor
partner with engineering, quality, and planning teams to align operational capacity with build requirements
proactively flag constraints, resource conflicts, and risks to leadership
support new product introductions and build campaign transitions
coordinate staffing, training, workspace setup, and material staging
drive operational metrics (first pass yield, schedule adherence, throughput, safety incidents)
lead continuous improvement initiatives to raise the performance bar
manage workforce planning, hiring, shift scheduling, cross-training, and skill development to maintain operational flexibility in a high-mix environment
ensure readiness and coordinate with maintenance and facilities to maintain uptime for CNC machines, 3D printers, assembly stations, and test equipment
foster open communication and collaboration across shifts and functional teams
create an environment that is productive, safe, and engaged
