Job Description
This job opportunity is available at a reputable dining facility located within a Residential College in Norman. The establishment is focused on providing quality food services and operates within an educational campus environment. The role is designated as essential service work, with a varied schedule that may include nights, weekends, and periods during campus closures. This flexibility is crucial to maintaining continuous food service operations and supporting university activities at all times. The pay range targeted for this role is $15.00 hourly, with actual compensation based on experience. The position is benefits eligible, offering various employee benefits typically associated with university employment.
The position is for a first line assistant supervisor focused on the preparation, production, and serving of food items in a dining hall. This role is vital to ensuring that food service operations run smoothly and efficiently. The assistant supervisor also determines work priorities and assigns tasks to food service workers and students. Providing guidance and training on food preparation techniques, proper serving methods, safe kitchen equipment operation, and sanitation standards forms a core part of the responsibilities. The role requires planning cooking schedules diligently to meet timelines, ensuring food is prepared according to standard recipes, portion control standards, and quality benchmarks.
Additionally, the assistant supervisor is entrusted with modifying recipes and production quantities as needed, maintaining optimal food quality throughout preparation and service. There is a significant focus on inventory management, food consumption tracking, and record-keeping to support operational accuracy and accountability. Operating various kitchen equipment such as ovens, grills, mixers, and slicers safely and efficiently is expected, along with maintaining the operational readiness and safety of all kitchen equipment and supplies. Adherence to university policies and local Health Department standards is mandatory.
In this position, there is also the responsibility to assist in ordering supplies, planning special events, cleaning, receiving, and stocking products, among other duties that may be assigned. Employees scheduled for shifts of 5 hours or more typically receive a free meal during their shift, and uniforms are provided at no cost but must be maintained by the employee. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED or graduate of culinary school
- 12 months of restaurant/customer service experience
- Ability to obtain a Food Handlers License
- Food Handlers Card required within 30 days of hire
- Hepatitis A vaccine required
- ServSafe Certification
- 12 months of restaurant kitchen/cooking supervisory experience

Job Duties
- Determine work priorities and assign work to food service workers and students
- Provide guidance and training in food preparation, serving techniques, safe operation of equipment and proper sanitation
- Plan cooking and preparation schedules to assure timetables are met
- Prepare, season, cook, fire, and bake food according to standard recipes following portion control standards
- Modify recipes and production amounts as needed
- Ensure optimal quality of food throughout preparation and service
- Operate a variety of kitchen equipment such as ovens, grills, mixers, slicers
- Oversee maintenance of inventory, food consumption and other food service records
- Assist with ordering, planning, special events, cleaning, receiving and stocking of product as required
