Job Description
Amazon is a global leader in e-commerce, cloud computing, and digital streaming services, renowned for its innovative approach and commitment to customer satisfaction. Its subsidiary, Amazon Web Services (AWS), provides a comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud platform, offering over 200 fully featured services from data centers worldwide. AWS constantly pushes the boundaries of technology to ensure scalable, reliable, and secure infrastructure solutions for its massive customer base. As part of its commitment to sustainability and innovation, Amazon is continually seeking top-tier talent to join their diverse teams focused on pioneering new technologies and operational strategies that support its expansive infrastructure and cloud services.
The AWS Energy team is currently seeking a self-starter to play an integral role in shaping the future of utility power for AWS data centers across the Americas. This position is designed for an individual who thrives in a fast-paced, complex environment and who can strategically and tactically manage large-scale power infrastructure projects. This role involves developing and executing comprehensive energy strategies that encompass generation, transmission, distribution, and backup power solutions to support AWS's ambitious goals in delivering diverse, low-cost, and sustainable energy supplies.
As a leader within the AWS Energy team, the successful candidate will be responsible for steering multiple high-impact projects, coordinating a wide assortment of internal and external stakeholders including utility companies, engineering teams, and regulatory bodies. A crucial part of the role is to identify new energy supply opportunities that accelerate AWS's path to net-zero carbon emissions by integrating renewable energy projects and innovative grid solutions. The incumbent will also be tasked with managing capital and operating expenses effectively to optimize the cost efficiency of AWS's energy use.
This position demands a deep understanding of regulated electric utilities, contract negotiation, financial modeling, and project management within the energy infrastructure sector. Experience with medium and high-voltage power infrastructure projects is essential, along with the ability to negotiate supply contracts that align with AWS’s sustainability and cost objectives. Beyond technical and commercial expertise, the role requires strong leadership skills to influence cross-functional teams, drive projects to completion, and report progress to senior management including C-level executives.
The candidate will serve as the primary liaison for utility interactions, managing relationships with EPC contractors, owners’ engineers, and utility regulators to ensure the successful implementation of energy projects. This role offers a unique opportunity to act like a group CEO for AWS’s power generation and distribution efforts, setting vision and strategy that challenge traditional energy value chains and foster innovation in the rapidly evolving energy landscape.
The AWS Infrastructure Services team, to which this role belongs, is responsible for the global design, planning, delivery, and operation of AWS infrastructure. This team supports all AWS data centers and the physical assets that power the cloud services customers rely upon. Joining this team means working alongside diverse professionals from various disciplines including engineering, supply chain, security, and operations, all committed to operational excellence and innovation in a culture that encourages bold ideas and ownership.
The position is based in Arlington, VA, and offers an annual salary range of $155,400 to $210,200, complemented by sign-on payments, restricted stock units, and comprehensive benefits. Amazon emphasizes an inclusive workplace and is an equal opportunity employer, supporting individuals with disabilities and promoting employee success across all levels.
