Job Description
NJPAC, the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, is a world-class cultural institution committed to bringing diverse and high-quality performances to its vibrant community. The Senior Director of Programming & Market Development is a pivotal and newly created entrepreneurial role at NJPAC. This position is focused on driving revenue growth and expanding market presence both regionally and nationally. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Programming & Strategic Partnerships, the Senior Director will play a central role in enhancing NJPAC's programming lineup by securing a diverse range of events. The role involves booking a minimum of 80 events annually across NJPAC and other venues, balancing artistic integrity with commercial success, and ensuring risk management and sustainability throughout the programming choices.
This role requires an individual with strong industry relationships and extensive multi-genre booking experience. The Senior Director will use research and critical thinking skills to identify new opportunities while collaborating closely with various departments such as marketing and production for effective event execution. They will be responsible for cultivating and expanding partnerships with promoters, artists, agents, managers, and venues to secure bookings that align with NJPAC’s mission and financial goals. Their leadership will extend to managing a team that includes producers and coordinators focused on festivals, performances, and market development.
In addition to booking and partnership responsibilities, the Senior Director will oversee budgeting processes, ensuring show-level and departmental budgets are maintained within PRISM financial systems in collaboration with senior leadership. They will monitor expenses and maximize savings, handle artist contracts and settlements, and ensure timely communication of confirmed show details to support various operational teams.

Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required
- minimum 10 years experience in concert promoting and booking events
- strong budgeting and accounting skills including Excel proficiency
- availability for evenings, weekends, and travel

Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- Book a minimum of 80 diverse events per fiscal year focusing on mission, profit maximization, risk management, and sustainability
- determine appropriate presentation model for each project
- stay current on industry trends, emerging artists, and market developments
- cultivate and expand strategic partnerships with promoters, artists, agents, managers, and venues
- participate in artist contract approvals, production advances, budget management, and artist settlements
- build and manage show-level and annual departmental budgets in collaboration with VP and Director of Programming Operations
- ensure timely and accurate delivery of confirmed show information to support departments
- manage direct reports including Producer, Festivals & Performances, Market Development Coordinator and Producer
- participate in weekly cross-departmental meetings on calendar planning, marketing strategies, and production coordination
- manage budgets related to production costs and projected revenues
- represent NJPAC at industry conferences alongside VP
- provide show coverage locally, regionally, or nationally as needed
- perform other duties as assigned
