Job Description

Encore is a leading global provider of event technology and production services, renowned for delivering innovative solutions that bring events to life across various venues including hotels, convention centers, and outdoor spaces. As a dynamic and innovative company specializing in audio-visual technology and event management, Encore prides itself on combining state-of-the-art technology with exceptional service to create memorable and seamless event experiences for clients worldwide. The company’s reputation for professionalism, commitment to quality, and continuous improvement has made it a trusted partner for high-profile and high-visibility events, ranging from corporate conferences to large-scale entertainment productions.

The role of the Senior Director, Event Technology (Sr DET I) at Encore is a critical leadership position responsible for overseeing the sales and operations leadership teams within one or more assigned venue locations. These locations generate significant annual revenues, typically ranging between $8 million and $20 million. The Sr DET I is accountable for achieving ambitious revenue and profitability goals while ensuring the delivery of world-class service. This position reports directly to a Regional Director or Regional Vice President of Venues, illustrating the seniority and strategic importance of the role within Encore's organizational structure.

The Senior Director, Event Technology leads by example to cultivate a high-performance culture defined by accountability, continuous improvement, and a collaborative environment that values learning and a steadfast commitment to quality. This leadership role is not only focused on operational excellence but also on maintaining and strengthening valuable relationships with venue leaders, clients, and industry stakeholders, including production and exposition professionals. Strong relationship management is essential to enhance business partnerships and foster customer retention.

Financial stewardship is a core component of the Sr DET I role. The incumbent manages the financial health of their venues by coordinating efforts between sales and operations teams to maximize revenue, control costs, and ensure profitability. This includes training leadership teams on financial reporting, monitoring budgets, reviewing profit and loss statements, and enforcing billing and payment processes. The Sr DET I also collaborates on operational planning at the regional level to support growth initiatives and strategic business development.

From an operational perspective, the Senior Director ensures that events are executed to Encore’s rigorous production standards. Accountability extends to managing daily floor operations, scheduling, equipment setup and strikes, inventory control, and quality assurance to ensure a smooth and flawless event experience. The role demands a strategic mindset that sees the big picture—assessing scheduling and resource allocation, negotiating labor and equipment sharing, and regularly participating in venue meetings.

Technical expertise is another key responsibility area. The Sr DET I serves as a resource and escalation point for technical challenges faced by sales and operations teams, ensuring all staff are fully proficient with the technical aspects of their roles and the relevant company systems and software. This technical oversight ensures that all event technology services meet Encore’s high standards.

In addition to operational and technical responsibilities, the Senior Director leads people development efforts. This includes fostering Encore’s core values and culture, managing team performance, addressing employee concerns, maintaining optimal staffing, and providing mentoring and coaching. The Sr DET I ensures staff are trained on Encore’s standards for service, equipment, and technology usage and is responsible for succession planning to maintain a strong talent pipeline. The role also involves working effectively within union labor environments where applicable and partnering with regional leadership and HR to improve employee engagement and advance diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

The working environment for this position includes hotel and convention center settings, often with exposure to varying noise levels, weather conditions, and physical demands including lifting and standing for extended periods. Flexibility is necessary as the role requires working irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and being on-call. The Senior Director must consistently maintain a polished and professional image in accordance with Encore’s appearance guidelines.

Overall, the Senior Director, Event Technology at Encore plays a pivotal role in driving business success through strategic leadership, operational excellence, financial acumen, technical expertise, and exceptional customer and people management skills. This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned professional passionate about event technology and delivering excellence in a fast-paced, client-focused environment.
