Job Description

The Sr Culinary Educator position is based within University Hospital's Food Service Administration department. This regular full-time role with a 40-hour workweek involves delivering specialized culinary education aimed at cancer patients, survivors, families, and caregivers. The educational sessions occur in The James Instructional Kitchen as well as through outreach via the Mobile Education Kitchen. The role requires a dietitian who can not only provide nutritional care through assessment, counseling, and intervention but also collaborate effectively in program development to tailor food and nutrition education that positively impacts patient and community health.

The Sr Culinary Educator is responsible for ensuring that food preparation aligns with the specific needs of the audience by utilizing proper food handling and sanitation techniques following HACCP standards and local regulations. This includes managing food displays and transportation for educational sessions and events. Coordination responsibilities extend to staffing, food purchasing, billing systems integration, and maintaining schedules for the educational kitchens and related events, including driving and event setup. Additionally, the role includes contributing to the creation of marketing and promotional materials to enhance program visibility and engagement.

Candidates are expected to hold a bachelor's level degree and must be registered or registration eligible as a licensed dietitian in the state of Ohio. The position requires at least five years of relevant work experience, preferably including clinical dietitian roles, and culinary or food service experience. A valid Ohio driver’s license is mandatory due to the mobile outreach components. Job Duties

  • Deliver culinary education to cancer patients, survivors, families, and caregivers in instructional and mobile kitchens
  • provide nutritional care including screening, assessment, care plan development, intervention, counseling, and diet education
  • collaborate, plan, develop, and coordinate custom food and nutrition education programs for patients and community groups
  • ensure appropriate food production methods and maintain compliance with food safety and sanitation standards according to HACCP and local regulations
  • display, transport, and set up food for educational events and demonstrations
  • integrate departmental functions such as staffing, purchasing, and billing systems
  • coordinate schedules and logistics for Mobile Education and Demonstration Kitchens, including driving and event setup
  • develop or assist in creating marketing and promotional materials as needed
