The Senior Account Manager role at Higginbotham Insurance Agency is integral to maintaining and strengthening the professional relationship between the agency and its clients, particularly focusing on a portfolio of level-funded and self-funded accounts. This full-time position is responsible for delivering outstanding customer service and establishing trust by accurately addressing and anticipating the needs of clients. As a pivotal liaison, the Senior Account Manager works closely with sales agents to facilitate both the renewal of existing business and the acquisition of new accounts. The role requires a thorough understanding of employee benefits, compliance with federal and state regulations such as the ACA and ERISA, and the ability to navigate the administrative and strategic facets of employee health plans.

The ideal candidate will be adept at handling client inquiries, resolving disputes, and managing transitions between insurance carriers smoothly. They will support marketing efforts for account renewals, oversee the preparation and accuracy of proposals, and generate enrollment materials to assist clients during open enrollment periods. The role also involves educating clients on regulatory changes affecting benefits programs and ensuring compliance with all relevant deadlines. Job Requirements

  • Ability to lift 25 pounds

Job Qualifications

  • Five plus years of employee benefits and account management experience in the insurance field
  • Strong understanding of current employee benefits, regulations, and industry standards
  • Experience with Affordable Care Act and Employment Retirement Income Security Act preferred
  • Experience with fully-insured financial arrangements and alternate-funding methods preferred
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development
  • Active Life and Health License required
  • Industry-related designations preferred
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Applied Epic experience preferred but knowledge of similar AMS acceptable

Job Duties

  • Acts as the primary contact between client, prospect, agency, and producer
  • represents the agency in handling complaints, arbitrating disputes, or resolving grievances
  • Comprehensive knowledge and execution of self-funded accounts
  • Handles or refers all service requests by our clients
  • Initiates and handles marketing of accounts beginning 120 days before renewal date
  • Gathers necessary information regarding new/existing accounts and submits to carriers to obtain proposals
  • Investigates carrier products, analyzes client data to recommend suitable plans
  • Reviews proposals for accuracy
  • works with Producer to generate proposal presentations
  • Calculates premium and payroll deductions
  • audits billing statements for accuracy
  • Generates open enrollment materials such as guides, election forms, confirmation sheets, presentations
  • Attends and presents local enrollments/client meetings
  • Processes necessary paperwork for carrier submission
  • Directs smooth transitions between carriers
  • Updates accounts in agency management system
  • Sets priorities and manages workflow for timely, accurate processing
  • Maintains knowledge of carrier developments and regulatory changes
  • Ensures client accounts are compliant
  • Identifies new product opportunities
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with insurance carriers
  • Maintains agency files accurately
  • Attends and completes training sessions
  • Performs related tasks as needed
