Job Description

Pleasant Grove Recreation Center is a community-focused establishment dedicated to providing quality recreational sports programming for residents of Pleasant Grove and the surrounding areas. With a commitment to fostering healthy, active lifestyles, the center offers a wide variety of sports and recreational activities designed to engage participants of all ages and abilities. The center is known for its inclusive approach that encourages community involvement, teamwork, and skill development in a fun and supportive environment. Part of the City of Pleasant Grove’s efforts to promote community wellness and engagement, the Pleasant Grove Recreation Sports department manages several sports leagues and programs throughout the year, emphasizing positive experiences and personal growth for all participants.

The Sports Program Coordinator role is a dynamic part-time position (20-29 hours per week) located at the Pleasant Grove Recreation Center, with pay ranging between $20 and $30 per hour depending on experience. This role is integral to the success of the city’s youth sports offerings, which include popular programs such as Fall and Spring Soccer, Track & Field, Cross Country, Junior Jazz Basketball, Volleyball, T-Ball, Coach Pitch, and Machine Pitch. The primary responsibility of the coordinator is to oversee the planning, organization, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of these youth sports programs. This includes managing league operations, registration, scheduling, recruiting and training coaches, maintaining equipment, coordinating facility use, and ensuring effective communication with all stakeholders.

The Sports Program Coordinator also plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, enjoyable, and high-quality experience for the recreation center’s users. They work closely with participants, parents, volunteers, referees, and community partners to foster an environment that emphasizes sportsmanship, teamwork, skill development, and community connection. Beyond program oversight, the coordinator supports budget management and marketing efforts for the sports programs. They also provide supervision and training for staff members involved in sports activities, ensuring that operations run smoothly and efficiently.

In addition to direct program management, the coordinator assists the Recreation Manager as needed, embodying the values and mission of the Pleasant Grove Recreation Center. The ideal candidate is proactive, organized, and passionate about youth sports and community recreation. Strong communication skills, customer service expertise, and the ability to multi-task in a team setting are essential to succeed in this role. Job Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent
  • One to three years of related experience
  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • Knowledge of rules and conduct of community sports programs
  • Knowledge of supervisory and managerial principles and practices
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Strong public relations and customer service skills
  • Ability to organize schedules and coordinate activities

Job Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent
  • One to three years of related experience
  • Supervisory experience preferred

Job Duties

  • Plan, implement sporting leagues and activities as directed
  • Staff the programs and activities of designated recreational programs
  • Supervise, train and evaluate recreation program staff members
  • Plan, implement and evaluate the program budgets
  • Keep accurate records and information
  • Coordinate youth and adult recreation activities
  • Provide daily reports, incident reports, waiver release forms and rosters
  • Communicate with the public to assess and meet their recreational interests and needs
  • Produce marketing and information materials for the Recreation Department
  • Assist the Recreation Manager as needed
