Job Description

LA28 is the independent, non-profit, and privately funded organizing committee responsible for delivering the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. With a mission centered around creating a Games experience that celebrates the rich diversity and culture of Los Angeles and the United States, LA28 is committed to producing an unparalleled global sporting event that inspires athletes, fans, partners, and local communities alike. As the Summer Games return to the U.S. for the first time in 32 years, and for the third time in Los Angeles' history, this presents a unique opportunity to not only honor the city’s Olympic legacy but also to advance the Olympic and Paralympic movements globally. The organization's work is deeply rooted in core values including optimism, integrity, excellence, inclusion, co-creation, and boldness, emphasizing the need for a collaborative and innovative team to execute an extraordinary Games experience.

The role of Sport Manager, Paralympic Athletics, is integral to the LA28 Sport team and plays a vital leadership role in the operational planning and management of Paralympic Athletics within the 2028 Games program. Reporting to the Sport Manager of Athletics, the Sport Manager - Paralympic Athletics will be the primary liaison with World Para Athletics, ensuring smooth coordination and adherence to international standards for the Paralympic Athletics events. This role involves close collaboration with other LA28 functions such as Venues and Infrastructure, Event Management, Ticketing and Hospitality, Games Services, Transport, Accommodation, Food and Beverage, and Accreditation. Beyond this, the position requires partnering across departments including Athlete Relations, Strategy, Marketing, Commercial, Technology, HR, and Finance to ensure a comprehensive approach to the Games' planning and execution.

This leadership position requires management of critical elements such as the design and development of competition and training venues tailored to Para Athletics, the development and validation of competition schedules and training programs, and ensuring all equipment meets World Para Athletics' requirements. The Sport Manager will act as a key expert in para athletics within LA28 to develop and refine event operating plans, streamline testing and readiness events, and integrate technology systems and infrastructure needs related to competitions. The role also encompasses workforce management, from recruitment to day-to-day leadership, of paid staff, officials, and volunteers supporting Paralympic Athletics. Candidate experience in managing national and international para athletics events, a strong organizational skillset, and the ability to foster collaborative relationships with both internal teams and external stakeholders like USA Track & Field and international governing bodies are critical to success.

Additional responsibilities include serving as the principal contact for World Para Athletics, administering communications, managing stakeholder relations, organizing pre-Games site visits, and tracking competition deliverables. The position demands advanced problem-solving capabilities, the ability to work independently, and the flexibility to adapt to evolving operational needs leading up to and during the Games. International, domestic, and local travel are anticipated for site visits, events, and collaborative meetings. The role is based in Los Angeles with an annual salary range of $88,000 to $108,000 and does not include relocation assistance. LA28 is an equal opportunity employer committed to building an inclusive and diverse workforce that represents a wide array of perspectives and backgrounds. This is an exciting opportunity for a driven Sport Management professional passionate about contributing to one of the world’s largest and most prestigious sporting events and advancing Paralympic athletics on a global scale.
