Job Description
The Virginia Lottery is a well-established and reputable state agency that has served the Commonwealth of Virginia for over three decades. Known for its commitment to providing enjoyable and responsible gaming experiences, the Virginia Lottery supports K-12 public education through proceeds from its traditional lottery games. Additionally, the agency regulates sports wagering and casino gaming, with the resultant tax revenues contributing to various Commonwealth priorities. The Virginia Lottery is recognized as a fun and diverse place to work, offering competitive salaries and excellent benefits while maintaining a strong focus on integrity and community engagement. The organization values inclusion and actively encourages individuals with disabilities and veterans to apply for its opportunities through specialized programs like the Commonwealth Alternative Hiring Process.
Currently, the Virginia Lottery is inviting applications for the position of Sponsorships and Events Manager within its Marketing Department. This is a full-time, salaried role classified under Pay Band UG, with a competitive hiring salary range between $88,000 and $114,000. The position is located at the Virginia Lottery offices in Richmond, Virginia, and requires the employee to work onsite at least three days a week, including Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The role is strategically important as it focuses on managing the planning, strategy, and execution of key sponsorships and in-person marketing events in partnership with third-party organizations. The manager will collaborate closely with the Virginia Lottery’s media-buying and experiential marketing partners to assess sponsorship opportunities, estimate return on investment, and ensure that all campaigns align with brand guidelines and marketing strategies.
The Sponsorships and Events Manager will oversee the delivery of creative assets and coordinate logistics for sponsorships and events to promote Virginia Lottery products effectively throughout the state. This includes identifying promising events where lottery products can be sold or advertised, strategizing event footprints, staffing, and premium giveaways. The role entails managing a significant multi-million dollar budget and maintaining inventory control over promotional items. While the manager is not expected to personally attend every event, they are responsible for setting procedures and standards to guarantee a positive consumer experience. Additionally, the position provides support to the Communications & Customer Relations Department for community events and the Sales Department for retailer-specific promotions.
Applicants for this position are required to have a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Advertising, Business, or a related field along with a minimum of five years of marketing or advertising experience that includes managing sponsorships and events. Candidates must demonstrate expertise in sponsorship principles, event execution, and management of complex projects involving multiple stakeholders. Effective oral and written communication skills are essential for collaborating with internal departments and external partners. The ability to track performance metrics, work within tight deadlines, and handle multiple projects with flexibility is crucial. Knowledge of state lottery operations and industry-specific administrative practices is preferred. This position does not offer work sponsorships, thus applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
The Virginia Lottery fosters an inclusive workplace and offers reasonable accommodations for applicants who need assistance during the application and interview process. Interested candidates should submit their applications online completely, keeping in mind that submissions will be reviewed until a qualified talent pool is formed. The agency will conduct background investigations for final candidates and complies with equal opportunity employment standards.
