The Spirits Specialist role at Skurnik Wines & Spirits is an exciting opportunity for a driven, team-oriented professional to actively support the sales team and effectively contribute to the launch and growth of their spirits portfolio within the Ohio market. This position focuses primarily on the representation of Willett Distillery's products, leveraging strong spirits knowledge and a solid understanding of Ohio’s unique regulations and marketplace. Based in Cleveland, this full-time role requires regular travel within the state, emphasizing communication, coordination, sales initiatives, and relationship management with both state liquor agencies and on-premise accounts.
This role is ideal for candidates with a deep passion for spirits, combined with a refined set of customer service skills and the ability to thrive in both independent fieldwork and collaborative team environments. The Spirits Specialist will play a critical role in driving sales growth and education through direct engagement, inventory transfers, portfolio support, and ongoing training for sales representatives and customers alike. By maintaining strong working relationships with state agencies and a diverse range of hospitality partners, the incumbent will ensure that Willett Distillery, alongside Skurnik’s Low ABV Spirits Portfolio, continues to grow its presence and reputation within Ohio’s competitive beverage landscape.
Key responsibilities include managing product transfers between state liquor agencies, supporting sales-driven initiatives and incentives, and providing educational resources that build a comprehensive understanding of the brokerage model, product categories, and brand stories. Additionally, partnership with sales leadership involves reporting, data analysis, and contributing insights that shape ongoing strategies. Job Requirements
- Ability to travel regularly
- Car and clean driving record required
- Knowledge of how spirits are sold in Ohio
- Passion for customer service
- Ability to thrive both in the field and in a collaborative team environment
Job Qualifications
- 3+ years of relevant experience in alcohol beverage, hospitality, culinary, bars/restaurants, supplier/wholesale, or tasting room
- Experience with Ohio Liquor Control Commission (OHLQ) at some level
- Must reside in Ohio
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word)
- Strong communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills
- Self-motivated, reliable, and passionate about spirits
Job Duties
- Help launch Willett Distillery in Ohio as a Skurnik-brokered product
- Continue building sales of our low ABV spirits portfolio, both on and off-premise
- Support sales-focused initiatives, goals, and incentives by ensuring that the relevant state agencies and on-premise accounts have access to products through OHLQ
- Provide ongoing spirits education to sales representatives and customers
- Serve as a knowledgeable resource on how spirits are sold in Ohio, the role of a brokerage, brands, categories, and product features
- Execute transfers of product throughout Ohio between state liquor agencies and aid in the active brokering of Willett's products to the OHLQ
- Make regular sales calls to both state liquor agencies and on-premise accounts to maintain strong relationships
- Participate in company sales meetings, seminars, trainings, and events
- Partner with sales leadership on reporting, data analysis, and insights
