As a Specialty Team Member, your responsibilities include providing support to the Specialty department by receiving and preparing products, maintaining appealing and fresh displays, and actively engaging with customers to promote the regional Specialty vision. You will be expected to ensure that all products meet Whole Foods Market’s rigorous quality standards, minimize waste, and maintain a clean and organized work environment adhering to health and safety regulations. This position requires a commitment to excellent customer service and teamwork, as well as compliance with operational procedures and the company’s core values. The role involves performing opening, mid, and closing duties while also assisting with the sampling program and maintaining back stock. Successful candidates will have strong attention to detail, effective communication skills, and a passion for natural foods. No prior retail experience is required, but the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and a commitment to upholding Whole Foods Market’s quality goals are essential. Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand or walk for extended periods, often in varying temperature conditions. The position may also require flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Job Requirements

  • No prior retail experience required
  • must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • standing or walking 6 to 8 hours in an 8-hour work day
  • hand use including single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling
  • ability to bend, twist, squat and reach
  • exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
  • exposure to temperatures including below freezing, refrigerated and above 90 degrees Fahrenheit
  • ability to work in a wet and cold environment
  • ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • ability to use tools and equipment including box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery
  • where applicable, TIPS (Training for Intervention Procedures by Servers of Alcohol) course completion required and must be 18 years of age or older to serve alcohol

Job Duties

  • Surprises and delights customers with consistent and delicious food
  • engages in positive and proactive selling
  • ensures a fresh and appealing display by keeping cases and shelves clean and well-stocked
  • checks product to ensure it meets Whole Foods Market quality standards
  • monitors spoilage and supply waste to minimize impact on department expenses
  • assists with sampling program, keeping sample areas full, clean and appealing
  • maintains back stock in good order
  • accesses information about market conditions and communicates to customers
  • ensures temperature, sanitation and sweep logs are completed
  • provides excellent customer service, addresses needs of customers in a timely and effective manner and models suggestive selling techniques
  • maximizes sales potential through effective and proper procedures for prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising product
  • follows and complies with established procedures including weights and measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices
  • maintains a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment
  • performs opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned
  • ensures accuracy of signs and pricing
  • immediately reports safety hazards and violations
  • performs other duties as assigned by store, regional, or national leadership
