This role is integral to the success of the Specialty department within a Whole Foods Market location and requires a dynamic leader capable of overseeing daily operations while supporting the growth and development of team members. As the leader of the Specialty team, the individual will be accountable for critical performance indicators including profitability, expense control, labor management, merchandising, and regulatory compliance. They will cultivate a positive environment of teamwork and exceptional customer service, essential for maintaining Whole Foods Market's reputation for quality and community engagement. The role involves direct responsibility for hiring, training, mentoring, and managing corrective actions for associates and team leaders. Candidates will be expected to ensure full compliance with health and safety regulations, including food safety standards, and to champion the company’s core values and initiatives. The wage range for this role is $23.60 to $42.50 hourly, commensurate with experience, and includes access to a comprehensive benefits package known as Whole Benefits. Job Requirements
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds
- Ability to stand or walk for 6-8 hours during an 8-hour shift
- Ability to perform single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, and pulling
- Capability to bend, twist, squat, and reach as required
- Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
- Ability to work in varying temperatures including freezing (-32 degrees Fahrenheit) and above 90 degrees Fahrenheit
- Ability to work in wet and cold environments
- Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Ability to use tools and equipment such as box cutters and electric pallet jacks
- Completion of TIPS course and age 18 or older to serve alcohol
- High school diploma or equivalent
Job Qualifications
- 24+ months retail experience including 12+ months of team leadership experience
- Advanced knowledge of products, buying, pricing, merchandising, and inventory management
- Food safety certification or commitment to complete within 6 months
- Excellent interpersonal, motivational, team building, and customer relationship skills
- Thorough product knowledge
- Advanced knowledge of regulatory and safety policies and procedures
- Proficiency with email, Microsoft Office, and operations-related applications
Job Duties
- Hold associate team leaders, supervisors, and team members accountable for delivering outstanding customer service
- Define and develop clear expectations to achieve the highest standards of retail execution
- Effectively delegate to and empower associate team leaders and team members
- Monitor and achieve sales, margin, expense, and labor targets
- Maintain proper product assortment, merchandising, and inventory control
- Ensure products are cross-merchandised in accordance with regional and global guidelines
- Ensure adherence to category management schedule and planograms
