This commitment to social and environmental responsibility underpins the company culture and drives their vision of revolutionizing the grocery industry. As a leader in specialty foods, Whole Foods Market emphasizes quality, sustainability, and exceptional customer experience, setting standards of excellence across all locations.
The role of the Assistant Team Leader at Whole Foods Market is integral to the store’s daily operations, providing critical support to the Team Leader in various facets of management and execution. This is a supervisory position that requires someone with strong leadership skills, keen attention to operational details, and a passion for the company’s core values. The Assistant Team Leader helps oversee profitability, expense control, inventory management, merchandising, labor coordination, and compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The position is involved in special projects as assigned and is expected to foster a positive working environment for team members. It is more than just a managerial role; it is a key contributor to cultivating a motivated, high-performing team that delivers a world-class customer experience.
Compensation for this hourly role ranges from $19.05 to $33.20, commensurate with experience, and benefits include Whole Foods Market’s comprehensive Whole Benefits program. This program offers a variety of perks for both full-time and part-time employees, including store discounts, paid time off, financial wellness support, health and wellness programs, and other team member perks. Eligibility depends on factors such as work location, length of service, and employment status.
The Assistant Team Leader’s responsibilities encompass a wide range of tasks including developing innovative store layouts and product merchandising strategies, assisting with sales and labor target achievement, analyzing sales and labor reports, supporting budgeting processes, ordering and inventory management, and resolving team-related issues. The Assistant Team Leader often acts as the person in charge in the absence of the Team Leader, ensuring that the highest standards of retail execution are maintained. This role also emphasizes team development through coaching, mentoring, performance evaluations, and fostering an environment of mutual respect and outstanding morale.
The ideal candidate will possess high energy, enthusiasm, extensive knowledge of specialty products, strong interpersonal and motivational skills, and a growth mindset. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, email, and other operational software is expected. Experience requirements include at least 18 months of retail team member experience and six months of supervisory experience. Physical demands include ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work extended hours on foot, and handle various environmental conditions. The position requires flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed, as well as the ability to operate equipment such as box cutters and electric pallet jacks.

The commitment to providing fair employment is deeply embedded within the company culture, supporting a workplace that respects all legally protected characteristics. Joining Whole Foods Market means becoming part of a mission-driven team that truly makes a difference in communities locally and globally, with opportunities for personal and professional growth.
