Job Description
Brooklyn Park is a vibrant community that prides itself on hosting an array of special events, ranging from weddings and golf outings to fundraising galas and community celebrations. The city offers a welcoming atmosphere that promotes inclusivity and diversity, making it an ideal place for both residents and visitors to gather and create lasting memories. Brooklyn Park’s Special Events program is designed to provide seamless and enjoyable experiences for all participants by ensuring every event is well-organized, safe, and professionally managed. As part of this commitment, the city offers an exciting seasonal opportunity for individuals interested in gaining hands-on leadership and event coordination experience.
The Special Events Assistant role at Brooklyn Park is tailored for motivated candidates who aspire to develop their skills in event operations while supporting the city’s dynamic special event schedule. This position involves working closely with the Edinburgh Events Supervisor to coordinate on-site event activities and to maintain a smooth flow throughout each occasion. The Special Events Assistant is entrusted with various responsibilities that contribute directly to the success of events, including setup and teardown of event equipment, upholding safety and cleanliness standards, and serving as a point of contact for vendors and attendees. This role offers the unique chance to gain practical experience in the events industry and to engage with a wide variety of community and private gatherings.
As a seasonal position with potential for year-round work, the Special Events Assistant contributes significantly to comprehensive event execution, ensuring that each function meets the high standards expected by Brooklyn Park residents and guests. Candidates will be expected to work up to 20 hours per week, with shifts that may include early mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends, reflecting the unpredictable nature of event scheduling. Scheduled shifts may vary and can include early start times such as 5:45 a.m., midday hours, or late-night coverage. Compensation for this role ranges between $15.30 and $19.67 per hour, depending on the qualifications and experience of the applicant.
This position demands both physical stamina and excellent interpersonal skills. Candidates must be comfortable with lifting up to 30 pounds and working in different environmental conditions, including both indoor and outdoor venues. The Special Events Assistant must prioritize safety and professionalism, upholding food safety regulations and other requirements while maintaining transparent and respectful communication with vendors, attendees, and other parties involved. The role may also involve light snow and ice maintenance during winter months, reflecting the year-round commitment to preserving an optimal event environment.
Brooklyn Park encourages a diverse range of applicants, including individuals of all abilities, persons of color, veterans, LGBTQ+ individuals, and women. The city is committed to providing reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities and offers support throughout the application process. Joining the Brooklyn Park Special Events team provides invaluable experience in the events field, strong exposure to leadership and operations, and the satisfaction of contributing to inclusive community celebrations that bring people together.
