Job Description
The Los Rios Community College District is a well-established educational organization dedicated to providing high-quality learning experiences to its diverse student body across multiple campuses. It operates several colleges, including American River College, which serves as a hub for higher education in the region. The district is committed to fostering an inclusive environment that supports the academic and professional growth of its students and staff with an emphasis on equity, diversity, and community engagement. This makes it an appealing employer for candidates passionate about education, community involvement, and teamwork.
The part-time, temporary Events Coordinator position within the Los Rios Community College District offers an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in event management and campus operations. Working under the guidance of the Operations Director or Supervisor, this role primarily focuses on coordinating external rental events and a variety of miscellaneous activities hosted at American River College’s facilities. The position emphasizes an equity mindset, requiring the coordinator to continually assess and address policies, procedures, and practices to ensure inclusivity and responsiveness to community needs.
The Events Coordinator serves as an official liaison for visiting teams, officials, emergency personnel, media outlets, community groups, and other organizations that utilize the college’s facilities. This crucial role involves greeting visitors and ensuring that all event activities comply with the college’s facility use permits, rules, regulations, and terms of use. The coordinator also provides hands-on assistance with event setup and teardown, which includes unlocking and securing facilities as necessary. In addition to customer service duties, the role incorporates administrative responsibilities such as filing and report preparation.
This position requires operational versatility, as the coordinator will also be involved in duties like cart operation, concessions management, parking coordination, material storage, ushering, assisting chain gang crews for football events, announcing, and scoreboard operation at athletic events. The coordinator will be responsible for upholding safety standards and reporting any non-compliance detected during events to appropriate authorities. Candidates must demonstrate strong communication skills, effective customer service, and the ability to interact professionally with a wide range of stakeholders.
Due to the nature of the events and facility usage, the role might demand physical labor, including standing for extended periods, maneuvering equipment, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, and handling various tools and materials. Safety consciousness is essential, as is the ability to carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds and use ladders when necessary. Maintaining a valid California driver’s license is mandatory for operating district vehicles.
Overall, this temporary Events Coordinator opportunity appeals to proactive individuals who enjoy dynamic work environments, are committed to fostering equitable community relations, and are keen on supporting operational excellence within a respected educational district. The role presents meaningful challenges and growth opportunities that contribute directly to the smooth functioning of campus events and community engagement initiatives. Employment is part-time and temporary, allowing for flexible scheduling while gaining valuable experience in event coordination and facility management within a public educational institution.
