The Advancement team is an 11-person group dedicated to fostering strong relationships and advancing philanthropy in alignment with Lakeside’s mission. The team manages fundraising initiatives that generate over $3 million annually for the Lakeside Fund, along with support for capital projects and the school’s endowment. This work requires sophisticated relationship management, highly effective communication, and strategic stewardship to ensure the school’s long-term sustainability.

The Special Events Manager role is a full-time, exempt position responsible for leading the planning and execution of significant schoolwide and advancement events. Reporting to the Director of Institutional Philanthropy, this position is integral in managing a portfolio of high-profile gatherings that enhance community connection and support fundraising and engagement goals. Key institutional events under this manager’s purview include the school’s four annual endowed lectureships, Commencement, Grand Day, and important milestone celebrations. In addition, the role involves coordinating advancement and philanthropic events such as donor receptions and the Lakeside Fund Kickoff, as well as alumni reunions and events that foster lasting connections with the school community.

The Special Events Manager is expected to demonstrate strong project management and organizational skills, balancing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment with exceptional attention to detail and a collaborative spirit. The role requires exercising independent judgment in event strategy, budget management, vendor negotiation, and operational planning. The successful candidate will work cross-functionally with colleagues and volunteers, ensuring all events align with the school’s values and strategic objectives while delivering exceptional experiences for students, families, donors, and alumni.

This position offers a competitive salary range from $86,500 to $92,000, based on experience and education, alongside a comprehensive benefits package. Job Requirements

  • bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred
  • minimum five years of professional event management experience
  • proven ability to manage complex event logistics and budgets
  • strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment
  • proficiency in vendor negotiation and contract management
  • capacity to handle multiple priorities simultaneously
  • ability to represent institutional values and mission effectively
  • flexibility to work nontraditional hours when required

Job Qualifications

  • five plus years experience managing complex multi-layered events from concept through execution
  • experience managing budgets and negotiating vendor contracts
  • excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to collaborate across departments and volunteers
  • effective communication across diverse audiences and stakeholder groups
  • ability to articulate mission, values, and strategic priorities of an institution
  • ability to stay calm under pressure
  • familiarity with independent schools higher education or nonprofit advancement
  • ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary

Job Duties

  • lead the planning and execution of four annual endowed lectureships including speaker selection and event logistics
  • serve as institutional lead for commencement managing all aspects of planning and execution
  • plan and execute grand day welcoming grandparents and special friends to campus
  • lead special one-time schoolwide events such as major milestone celebrations
  • develop and implement event strategies supporting donor cultivation and engagement
  • plan and execute donor and alumni events including receptions and reunions
  • manage event budgets and vendor contracts including negotiation
  • establish project plans and timelines prioritizing competing demands
  • lead cross-functional coordination ensuring alignment across departments
  • analyze event outcomes and recommend strategic improvements
  • develop standards and best practices for institutional events
  • assess operational, financial, and reputational considerations related to events
