Job Description
Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Richmond is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting families with seriously ill children by providing a home-away-from-home and other critical services. RMHC Richmond works tirelessly to provide comfort, care, and resources to families during some of the most challenging times in their lives. The organization plays a vital role in the community by fostering partnerships, raising awareness, and generating the necessary funds to maintain and expand its programs. RMHC Richmond is deeply committed to its core values—leading with compassion, showing respect, acting with integrity, and maintaining a firm commitment to its mission and community.
The Special Events Manager at RMHC Richmond is a pivotal role focusing on the comprehensive planning, coordination, and execution of all signature and internal events. These events are crucial for mission visibility, community engagement, and donor stewardship. The role is full-time exempt with an annual salary range of $52,000 to $62,000 based on skills and experience. The Special Events Manager is responsible for major fundraisers such as the Red Shoe Rendezvous, Red Shoe Golf Tournament, Shamrock Showdown, and Sporting Clays, ensuring these events are executed flawlessly. This includes managing logistics, timelines, budgets, vendors, and volunteers. Collaboration with internal teams, including development, marketing, finance, and corporate relations, is essential to align events with RMHC Richmond's goals and brand standards.
Beyond fundraising events, this role also includes organizing internal events such as the Alumni Family Event, Hospital Program Anniversaries, Referral Partner Appreciation Events, and Volunteer Appreciation activities. The role involves conducting pre-event planning meetings and post-event evaluations to ensure continuous improvement. The Special Events Manager works closely with the Senior Director of Corporate Relations to secure sponsorships and meet financial targets. They also manage raffle and auction packages in coordination with the development team and maintain event data with the Development Data Manager. Recruiting and managing volunteers, including the Gala volunteers and the Red Shoe Crew—an energetic young professional volunteer group—is another significant responsibility.
This position demands a candidate who embodies RMHC Richmond’s values, emphasizing compassion, respect, integrity, and commitment. The Special Events Manager must be flexible, patient, and capable of handling multiple tasks efficiently. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required, with an ability to listen actively and foster trust among donors, volunteers, and staff. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, proactive in problem-solving, and dedicated to professional growth and ethical standards. Embracing inclusivity and diversity is also a key aspect of this role. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about community-focused fundraising and event management to make a meaningful impact within a respected organization.
