Job Description
SouthWest Transit is a distinguished and award-winning transit agency dedicated to serving the SouthWest Twin Cities area. This agency offers an extensive range of transportation services including bus routes, on-demand rideshare, and shuttle services tailored to the community's diverse travel needs. With a strong commitment to superior customer experiences, SouthWest Transit continually builds community connections by providing accessible, reliable, and innovative transit solutions that effectively link passengers from their starting locations to their desired destinations. The organization thrives on its mission to deliver a premium transit experience that is safe, dependable, and cost-effective, aiming to support livability and enhance economic opportunities within the communities it serves.
SouthWest Transit is actively seeking Guest Services Attendants, Bus Zone Coordinators, and Special Event Supervisors to support operations during peak event periods such as the State Fair and Renaissance Festival weekends. Employment is flexible, designed to accommodate applicants who can work shifts ranging as needed throughout these events. These roles play critical customer-facing functions; employees are often one of the first and most visible points of contact for riders, responsible for assisting with various transit services related to these large public events.
The Guest Services Attendant position covers two main roles: Passenger Guide and Ticket Seller. Passenger Guides ensure a smooth boarding process by directing passengers at designated areas within the State Fairgrounds and SouthWest Transit stations, helping load and unload strollers and mobility devices, and addressing customer inquiries regarding transit service. Ticket Sellers manage ticket transactions using the Square POS system, assist customers with payment processes, and provide information about transit services while maintaining cleanliness around their work areas.
Bus Zone Coordinators hold added responsibility by maintaining communication with dispatch to ensure operational needs such as accessible vehicles are met, and they serve as acting Special Event Supervisors when necessary. They assist with passenger loading tasks and help manage the overall customer experience.
Special Event Supervisors act as managers on-site, overseeing the opening and closing of park and ride locations, ensuring staff attendance and equipment readiness, maintaining smooth operations, and serving as the primary contact for team members including Bus Zone Coordinators and Guest Services Attendants. These positions are designated as safety sensitive, consistent with Department of Transportation regulations, and require compliance with safety protocols including pre-employment drug screening.
Salary details vary by role with rates from $20 per hour for Passenger Guides and Ticket Sellers, $23 per hour for Bus Zone Coordinators, and $25 per hour for Special Event Supervisors. SouthWest Transit encourages applications to be submitted promptly as reviews begin immediately. These short-term opportunities offer a dynamic work environment with interaction and service at the heart of the transit experience during some of the region's most notable events.
