Founded in 1850, it has grown into a dynamic campus that attracts a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff. The university is committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment while providing top-tier education and services to its community. One of the many aspects that contribute to the smooth and efficient operation of the university is the role of its Commuter Services department, which manages parking and transportation facilities across the campus. This department is essential in ensuring that the daily logistical needs of thousands of students, staff, and visitors are met with professionalism and courtesy.

The Special Event Employee position at the University of Utah is a vital role within the Commuter Services - Operations team. This is a part-time opportunity with a pay rate of $15.00 per hour, designed for individuals who are eager to contribute to a seamless experience during special events hosted on campus. Special events often attract large crowds and require detailed attention to parking management. The Special Event Employee will be trained to effectively guide guests to appropriate parking locations, collect parking fees, and offer outstanding customer service throughout varying weather conditions. This position involves frequent standing, sitting, walking, and occasional lifting of items up to 30 pounds. Employees must be adaptable and willing to work flexible hours that correspond with the campus event schedule.

In this role, the employee will serve as a direct point of contact between the university and its visitors, representing the university's commitment to hospitality and professionalism. Key responsibilities include managing parking fee collections with accuracy, maintaining detailed records and reports, controlling traffic flow to ensure safety, and responding promptly and respectfully to guest inquiries and concerns. The ability to communicate clearly and maintain a friendly demeanor, even in challenging situations, is critical. Special Event Employees play an indispensable part in creating an organized and welcoming atmosphere during events that bring the campus community and the public together.

The University of Utah offers an inclusive work environment where employees can develop valuable skills in customer service, communication, and event operations. This role is well-suited for individuals seeking flexible part-time work with the opportunity to engage directly with a broad spectrum of people. Those with previous customer service experience or interest in event planning, campus operations, or transportation management will find the position rewarding and a valuable addition to their professional experience.
