Job Description
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is a premier federal agency committed to upholding the law and ensuring national security in the United States. Known for its rigorous standards and elite ranks, the FBI operates at the forefront of combating crime, terrorism, cyber threats, and other challenges to safety and democracy. For professionals with a background in the physical sciences—such as biology, chemistry, or physics—the FBI offers a unique and rewarding career path that allows individuals to leverage their scientific expertise in dynamic investigative roles. This agency prides itself on fostering a culture of continuous professional development, collaboration, and excellence. Situated at the intersection of science, technology, and law enforcement, the FBI provides the tools, training, and opportunities necessary for STEM professionals to transform their careers and make significant contributions to public safety and national security.
This opportunity is for those who aspire to become FBI special agents, harnessing their physical sciences knowledge within the context of federal law enforcement. The role is more than a job change; it is a chance to expand your skills, engage in challenging investigations, and work alongside top-tier colleagues who confront complex national security threats every day. Special agents with a STEM background apply critical thinking, rapid adaptation, and advanced problem-solving as they address cyberattacks, terrorism, financial fraud, and other federal crimes that impact the nation. With specialized training and access to cutting-edge investigative technology, this position helps candidates not only use their existing scientific knowledge but also enhance it through practical, real-world experiences.
The FBI is dedicated to supporting its agents through comprehensive professional growth programs and a work environment focused on respect and innovation. As a full-time role, the position offers a competitive salary range from $103,236 to $133,200 annually, reflective of base pay, locality, and availability incentives. The job involves travel and requires physical readiness to fulfill law enforcement duties effectively. Candidates will also engage with diverse federal, state, local, tribal, territorial, and international law enforcement partners to build strong cooperative relationships that are vital to successful investigations.
Applicants should be prepared to complete a detailed application process on the FBIJobs Careers website, providing relevant resumes, supporting documents, academic transcripts, and, if applicable, veteran-related paperwork. Emphasizing diversity and equal opportunity, the FBI ensures that all qualified candidates, irrespective of background, receive fair consideration for this pivotal role. Taking the step to join the FBI as a special agent with a STEM background not only increases career potential but also positions you at the vanguard of protecting the country against emerging and evolving threats. If you are ready to challenge yourself and make a lasting impact through your scientific expertise, the FBI encourages you to apply and embark on this distinguished career path today.
