Job Description
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is a premier federal law enforcement agency committed to protecting and defending the United States against domestic and international threats. As part of the Department of Justice, the FBI plays a critical role in upholding the rule of law, combating terrorism, cybercrime, espionage, and a range of high-profile criminal activities. With a storied history and a reputation for integrity and professionalism, the FBI offers a diverse and challenging work environment where innovation, intelligence, and dedication converge to safeguard national security and public safety.
This job posting is for the position of FBI Special Agent with a focus on candidates possessing a strong STEM background, particularly in the physical sciences such as biology, chemistry, or physics. This unique opportunity enables individuals to transition from a traditional scientific career path into a dynamic role that merges scientific expertise with law enforcement. Emphasizing the value of critical thinking, adaptability, and collaborative problem-solving, this career path offers more than just applying existing technical knowledge—it challenges candidates to expand their skills through specialized training and real-world investigative experience. Special agents in this capacity contribute to protecting the nation by investigating cyberattacks, terrorism, fraud, and other evolving threats.
The FBI invests in agents' professional growth by providing access to cutting-edge technology and continuous skill development. Agents refine their laboratory analysis and biotechnology capabilities while gaining comprehensive investigative acumen. The role involves maintaining a high level of physical fitness to meet the rigorous demands of law enforcement and requires coordination with various federal, state, local, tribal, territorial, and international law enforcement partners. Agents serve on the front lines, applying scientific knowledge to uncover critical information and advance justice.
This is a full-time position with a salary range from $103,236.00 to $133,200.00 per year, commensurate with base pay, locality adjustments, and availability pay. The position requires candidates to be U.S. citizens, able to obtain a Top Secret Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) Clearance, and willing to travel as required. Candidates must have a bachelor's degree or higher from a U.S. accredited institution, preferably in physical sciences or related fields. The FBI prides itself on an inclusive and equitable hiring process, ensuring all qualified applicants receive consideration without discrimination.
This exceptional opportunity offers a pathway for STEM professionals seeking to apply their expertise in a meaningful and impactful way while serving their country as a federal law enforcement officer. Joining the FBI as a special agent with a scientific background provides an unparalleled blend of intellectual challenge, public service, and career advancement. Candidates interested in this rewarding role should follow the application process outlined on the FBIJobs Careers website and prepare the necessary documentation, including a detailed resume and, where applicable, transcripts or veterans' credentials.
