Job Description
General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) is a leading defense contractor and technology company that develops cutting-edge solutions, products, and services for customers worldwide. With a dedicated workforce of more than 12,000 professionals, GDMS delivers high technology innovations that enable mission success across a broad range of operational domains including land, sea, air, space, and cyber. The company prides itself on fostering a culture of trust, honesty, alignment, and transparency, creating an engaging and rewarding work environment. Employees benefit from competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and opportunities for professional growth within a flexible work setting that values contributions and commitment.
GDMS is currently seeking an experienced and visionary System Engineering Product Owner and Technical Lead to join their team. This hybrid leadership role combines strategic product ownership with high-level technical management and people leadership, responsible for guiding a large-scale solution capability from concept through delivery. The position involves defining and communicating the technical vision, strategy, and roadmap for complex integrated systems, managing multiple Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), and ensuring architectural integrity and technical enablement. Candidates will engage directly with customers, stakeholders, and product management to align the technical solution with business objectives and customer needs.
As a System Engineering Product Owner and Technical Lead, you will provide direct line management to senior engineers, managing their performance, career development, and mentoring. You will lead IPTs, facilitate cross-team collaboration, manage dependencies, resolve impediments, and drive accountability and execution excellence. This role requires a deep understanding of systems engineering, project management, and leadership within complex, large-scale technical environments. Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience, with 8+ years of relevant supervisory experience, although those with a master’s degree and at least 6 years of experience are also encouraged to apply.
In addition to technical leadership, this role includes significant responsibility for resource allocation and structuring teams to ensure success. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of formal people management experience, a proven track record leading multiple cross-functional teams, and excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Knowledge and application of AI for continuous improvement and innovation is a desirable attribute. Experience with the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) and a background in defense or aerospace are advantageous.
The position offers flexible work arrangements, including fully remote, on-site at the SDA program in Scottsdale, Arizona, or hybrid options to suit candidate preferences and project demands. Candidates must be U.S. citizens and able to obtain a Department of Defense Top Secret security clearance within a reasonable timeframe after hire. The salary range for this role is estimated between USD 150,314.00 and USD 170,285.00 per year, commensurate with experience and other factors.
Join General Dynamics Mission Systems and be part of a high-performance, purpose-driven team that is pushing the boundaries of innovation in defense technology. This role is ideal for those who thrive in dynamic environments and are passionate about leading complex engineering efforts with a focus on technical excellence and impactful leadership. If you resonate with the values and goals of GDMS, this opportunity offers a chance to advance your career and contribute to critical missions worldwide.
