Job Description

The United States Space Force (USSF) is an independent military branch dedicated to organizing, training, and equipping space forces to protect U.S. and allied interests in space. As a relatively new branch within the Department of the Air Force, the Space Force focuses on the operational domain of space, developing advanced capabilities to ensure freedom of operation, space superiority, and national security. Alongside its defense mission, the Space Force is committed to fostering community engagement and morale through a variety of programs and events, one of the most prominent being the Space Force T-10 Miler event. This marathon event stands as a key morale, welfare, and recreation (MWR) activity for both Air Force and Space Force personnel, supporting physical fitness, camaraderie, and esprit de corps. Administered under a Nonappropriated Fund (NAF) framework, the SF T-10 Miler provides a vital outlet for service members and civilians to participate in a professionally executed endurance race that adheres to USA Track and Field standards and promotes overall wellness within the military community.

The role of the SF T-10 Miler Event Director is a highly responsible and strategic position charged with planning, executing, and ensuring the successful delivery of this major annual event. Reporting directly to the Air Force Morale (AFM) Programs Director, the Event Director acts as the primary point of authority overseeing all aspects of the race, from logistics and operations to marketing and participant engagement. This position involves comprehensive coordination with multiple internal departments such as Emergency Management, Anti-Terrorism, Civil Engineering, and local law enforcement, ensuring compliance with safety protocols, government regulations, and support requirements. The Event Director is tasked with crafting top-level operational plans, managing budgets, procuring resources, and engaging sponsors to meet the event's strategic, financial, and operational goals.

Key responsibilities include leading volunteer recruitment and training, managing race course design and certification, overseeing start/finish line activities and festival area operations, and coordinating transport, security, medical, and technical services. The Event Director must continuously evaluate the running program's effectiveness, implement improvements, and maintain critical timelines to guarantee a seamless participant experience. Acting as a public relations ambassador for the event, the Director also plans and executes marketing strategies to elevate the event’s profile at local and national levels. The position requires proactive leadership, impeccable project management, and the ability to work autonomously under high-pressure environments, including irregular hours during event days and travel for relevant expos, marathons, and conferences.

This role demands a blend of event management expertise, logistical acumen, financial oversight, and familiarity with military protocols. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in sports or entertainment event operations, a deep understanding of USA Track and Field long-distance running regulations, and a proven track record in leading personnel and managing complex projects. Given the sensitive nature of the work environment, candidates must successfully complete background investigations, obtain necessary security clearances, and meet physical and administrative criteria such as a valid driver’s license and drug testing compliance. The Event Director position is both a challenging and rewarding career opportunity to contribute significantly to the morale and welfare of the Air Force and Space Force communities through one of their marquee endurance events.
