Job Description

Velocity Health Group (VHG) is a pioneering start-up talent development organization located in Springfield, Missouri, dedicated to transforming behavioral health outcomes. VHG focuses on an accelerated residential treatment program specifically designed for adolescents, aiming to provide world-class care by deeply investing in the development and well-being of its employees. This innovative organization prioritizes an unparalleled work environment that empowers employees to grow and thrive personally, professionally, and financially, reflecting VHG's commitment to nurturing talent and fostering excellence.

The mission of Velocity Health Group is to radically improve behavioral health outcomes by placing the right people—those who are trained, valued, and inspired—at the center of care. VHG envisions revolutionizing behavioral healthcare by establishing a new national standard in treatment, training, and trust, anchored by the first behavioral health teaching hospital of its kind. The organization combines innovative clinical practices with supportive, employee-centric values to ensure both patients and staff experience excellence.

Within VHG, the culinary department plays an essential role in supporting patient health and therapeutic goals. The kitchen, known as Café Omotenashi, embraces the Japanese philosophy of selfless, wholehearted hospitality and service. Omotenashi emphasizes anticipating and fulfilling the needs of others without being asked, creating a welcoming atmosphere with meticulous attention to detail and genuine care. The Sous Chef role at Café Omotenashi is crucial in achieving this ethos, contributing to a world-class culinary experience for patients and staff.

As a Sous Chef at VHG, based in Marshfield, Missouri, you will work under the guidance of the Executive Chef to prepare nutritious, well-balanced meals that adhere to approved menus, dietary guidelines, and food safety standards. This full-time, non-exempt position demands dedication to food quality, safety, and nutritional appropriateness, especially catering to adolescents with varying dietary needs such as allergies and medical restrictions. The Sous Chef also upholds Missouri DSS licensing standards and trauma-informed care principles to maintain a safe, clean, and positive kitchen environment.

The role demands not only technical culinary skills but also a commitment to collaboration, communication, and performance excellence. Key focus areas include optimizing culinary performance, applying principles from renowned figures such as Danny Meyer and Anthony Bourdain, and fostering a supportive environment through cooperative work with clinical staff and stakeholders. The Sous Chef is expected to bring creativity, resilience, and authenticity to their work while maintaining a strong organizational and time management ethos to ensure timely meal service.

VHG seeks candidates with a passion for high-performance culinary settings, an ability to prepare meals with both nutritional value and visual appeal, and a genuine desire to work in an environment that celebrates the best of Omotenashi hospitality. This unique opportunity also calls for candidates who are comfortable participating in team meetings, training, and supportive engagement with patients and colleagues. The position requires physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds, as well as flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Joining Velocity Health Group as a Sous Chef means contributing to a transformative healthcare mission while developing your culinary career within a pioneering organization committed to innovation and care. If you are driven, curious, authentic, and resilient, and you want to be part of a team that values and inspires its people, this role offers a rare and rewarding path toward professional growth and personal fulfillment.
