Job Description

Goodwill Greater New York and Northern New Jersey (GWNYNJ) is a well-established nonprofit organization with a century-long history of empowering individuals and strengthening communities through the power of work and sustainable fashion. Operating extensively across New York and Northern New Jersey, GWNYNJ is dedicated to helping people obtain jobs, sustain employment, and advance their careers. The organization is renowned for fostering an inclusive and diverse environment where all employees feel valued, respected, and empowered to make meaningful contributions. They strongly believe that diversity drives innovation and enhances the workplace culture, which ties into their active commitment to embracing applicants from all backgrounds, identities, experiences, and abilities.

As a retail-focused nonprofit, Goodwill GWNYNJ channels the revenue generated through its retail operations to fund workforce development programs and other community services, further amplifying its social impact. The store locations serve as frontline venues where customers and donors interact, making retail experience crucial to the organization's mission. This creates a unique work environment where every role supports meaningful social objectives beyond typical retail functions.

The Key Holder position at GWNYNJ is a pivotal leadership role within the store operations team. Reporting directly to the Store Manager, the Key Holder is entrusted with maintaining high operational standards and providing exceptional customer service that reflects the Goodwill brand and mission. This is a hands-on supervisory position where the individual is expected to lead by example, manage the sales floor in the absence of the Store Manager, and foster a customer-first culture among the sales associates.

In this role, the Key Holder will be responsible for training and coaching team members to meet or exceed performance expectations based on Goodwill’s CARE service standards. They will play an essential part in driving sales growth by ensuring the sales floor is engaging and that customers receive personalized, respectful, and timely assistance. Furthermore, the Key Holder supports the Store Manager in administrative and operational tasks, helps resolve customer concerns, and ensures the timely flow of products from stock to sales floor.

The position requires the ability to blend operational excellence with strong interpersonal skills to cultivate an environment of teamwork and collaboration. The Key Holder is also expected to contribute to visual merchandising efforts to present the store attractively while upholding company policies and procedures. Given the dynamic nature of retail, the Key Holder must demonstrate flexibility in scheduling, including availability during evenings, weekends, and holidays, to meet business needs.

Overall, this role is ideal for a motivated individual with retail leadership experience who is passionate about delivering outstanding customer service and supporting an organization's greater mission to do good in the community. Goodwill GWNYNJ offers a supportive workplace environment and a comprehensive benefits package to ensure employees’ well-being and professional growth.
