This role is for multiple salaried Catering Sous Chefs positions located at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. The Catering Sous Chef will play an integral role in culinary operations, focusing on student dining services in a fast-paced, growing environment. This position supports the Executive Chef and culinary team by assisting in supervising food preparation, cooking, and developing daily menus along with the presentation of menu items. The Catering Sous Chef may also oversee hourly associates, ensuring operational efficiency, quality control, and customer satisfaction. Additional responsibilities include cost control management, assisting with ordering supplies, and contributing to the creation and execution of catering events. The role allows candidates to bring creativity and innovation to menu development and culinary programming, enabling a dynamic and rewarding career path. Job Requirements

  • A.S. or equivalent experience
  • Culinary or kitchen management experience
  • Experience in high volume foodservice operations
  • Knowledge of institutional and batch cooking
  • Understanding of food cost control and sanitation
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • ServSafe certification

Job Qualifications

  • A.S. or equivalent experience
  • Culinary/kitchen management experience, depending upon formal degree or training
  • High volume, complex foodservice operations experience - highly desirable
  • Institutional and batch cooking experiences helpful
  • Comprehensive knowledge of food and catering trends with a focus on quality, production, sanitation, food cost controls, and presentation
  • Must be experienced with computers
  • ServSafe Certified

Job Duties

  • Assist the Executive Chef and culinary team with managing cost controls and control expenditures for the account
  • Assists the Executive Chef and culinary team with planning and creating menus
  • Produce and execute catering events
  • Roll out new culinary programs in conjunction with the marketing and culinary teams
  • Foster strong client relationships to align our programs with their objectives, driving satisfaction and retention
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the efficient functioning of dining service operations
