The Sous Chef position, based in Sunnyvale, CA, offers full-time employment with a schedule from Monday to Friday, 6:00am to 4:00pm, and an annual salary range of $76,240 to $78,000. This role is integral to the Culinary Education Program within the Teaching Kitchen, where the Sous Chef assists in the operational success and culinary leadership. The role requires a hands-on approach to supporting curriculum development, culinary training, and teaching kitchen operations while upholding Bon Appetit's high standards of food quality, freshness, presentation, sanitation, and safety. This position collaborates closely with cafe chefs and team members to motivate, train, and develop employees, ensuring the achievement of operational objectives and maintenance of strong client relationships.

Key responsibilities include assisting with the creation and support of teaching kitchen curriculum and recipes, facilitating engaging and safe cooking classes, and contributing to menu planning that meets cultural and dietary needs. The Sous Chef will ensure all ingredients and products meet company standards and sustainability commitments, promote exemplary customer service, and adhere to Bon Appetit's philosophy of quality food and service. Additionally, the role involves managing teaching kitchen operations, training assistants, maintaining consistency through back-of-house standards, and supporting special events. The ideal candidate is expected to have supervisory experience in a quality food service environment, instructional food or retail experience, and a strong commitment to food and workplace safety. Technical proficiency, including knowledge of Google Suite and web-based ordering systems, is preferred. ServSafe certification is an asset. Job Requirements

  • minimum of 2 years kitchen supervisory experience or applicable culinary experience
  • minimum of 1 year instructional food or retail experience
  • ability to present to small and larger groups
  • ability to drive and enhance a robust culture focused on food and workplace safety
  • knowledge and interest in sustainability and sustainable food practices
  • technical skills including working knowledge of Google Suite
  • ability to operate web based ordering systems
  • ServSafe certification preferred

Job Qualifications

  • ability to operate web based ordering systems, process customer requests, changes to orders, menu updates and client profiles
  • ServSafe certified preferred
